You have feelings now?
Honestly, little Benchkin, it's not you, it's The Man. I would love to listen, but your show is on while I'm at work, so I can't.
You should play more Charlottesville bands. You have a nascent, lurker following here. Uh, I'm not lying, really.
If more of them sent me free CDs, I might! As you, Stanley, know, I'm generally kind of shaky when it comes to the geographical origin of a given band.
The lying thread is a couple posts down, Stanley.
I do download and listen to the recordings. But not at work. The powers-that-be have shut us off from YouTube and a bunch of other "entertainment" sites including myspace and facebook. They are watching the network like hawks and take a dim view of neat things. Work. Work. Work. At least I know my tax dollars are being wasted without distraction.
I'm new here, and I don't give a fuck. That could be your problem: the unfogged readership may be sufficiently transitory that fandom fails to take hold. Or it could be that your show sucks. I don't know one way or the other: I've never had occasion to listen to it.
o Your job as a promoter requires you to create such occasions. Aparrently, you have not yet succeeeded.Try showing some skin.
My roommates really dislike Josephine Foster, but I've now read nearly a whole novel to the accompaniment of that record.
Try showing some skin.
You haven't seen the pictures from the DC meet-up, I gather.
The Sm/thson/an takes a dim view of streaming music, and I often spend Tuesdays there. And I'm new here and don't give a fuck.
A goose don't give a fuck, Jackie.
I always thought you were kidding when you asked us to listen, w-lfs-n. I mean, accordions? Bagpipes? Seriously? SERIOUSLY? I figured it for a parody of indier-than-thou university DJs.
indier-than-thou university DJs.
They done push me to the limit the more I live. I hear ya.
What is with the new people barging in so haughty?
Oh well, I'm an old-timer, and I don't give a fuck.
I just don't give a fuck about music. Also I have classes and stuff.
I'm going to veer off topic for a brief moment and note that this clip sums up about six days worth of comments here on the presidential race in under four minutes.
"He's still black, he's just lucky." Holy shit, that's funny.
I used that line as the title of the post when I linked it at my site.
I'm usually pretty susceptible to musical dares, but I just don't feel the need to follow anyone over the "17-minute solo bagpipe" cliff.
It's the bottle of Cholula hot sauce that has me convinced. That and the US flag hung behind them improperly (blue part in the top left corner please). These two are clearly Mexicans, and that's why ogged likes 'em.
... and the Dems should try running the ghost of Luther Vandross.
Here's their first take on the field.
i never listen because of work and stuff, but also because i've HEARD the stuff you put on kriston's mix cd, and, shudder.
My roommates really dislike Josephine Foster
Insanity! Which record?
I mean, accordions?
You should listen to that show. (It's one of those that's been recorded.) It's great.
Kriston asked for the crazy. You can't judge based on that.
Gave him the even less popular Crazy Sanchez.
What, was everyone raiding my iTunes at the party?
It was JF's Hazel Eyes, I Will Lead You.
I note in passing that susan's mix (also received by: nakku, clownman, and md 20/400) contains a JF performance (Born Heller's "Pansies, Will You Ever Grow?"—incidentally the entire Born Heller album is excellent), and she hasn't complained about it.
17 minutes of the wee pipes does sound a bit much.
I'll give it a try.
I suppose I do listen to hours and hours of solo instrumental music anyway -- kora, ngoni, guitar, oud, whatever.
The time difference is a bit. I'm 9 hours ahead of you. It's hard to fit it into my day.
Although I generally like the music.
bit s/b bitch
or less offensive: bit s/b bit too much.
would you take a request for the late, great rufus harley? 'HPK used to have a couple of his lps back in the day...
33 I liked 'Pansies, Will You Ever Grow'. Actually I liked most of the things on that mix - and most of the accordion show for that matter. The bagpipe one sounds a bit daunting but just for w-lfs-n I'll try to fit it into my increasingly busy and stupid schedule. Also I'm new and I don't give a fuck.
I think this thread could be profitably merged with the "don't tell him, it'll upset him" thread below.
so yeh ben, we'll all listen to your radio show.
PST? PST?? Fuck. I've been listening for the last half-hour, wondering why these sounded so very different from Ben's typical selections. Double-fuck because I was coming here to say that I was really enjoying the show this time. Oh well.
All times references in these US should be EST. Everybody knows that. We have the nation's capital, so we get to say what time it is. Them's the rules.
I, too, can't listen because I'm at work. I will say that both my mix CD and Susan's are really good. We're just not going to talk about Kriston's.
Ben,
It's the nature of radio, you can't let audience response affect your inspiration. I've called KZSU to let you know what a fine show yours is but I'm afraid the medium's shortcomings are getting to you. I get around this by constantly reminding myself that it is about highlighting the artists.
Please don't try to increase listenership by watering down the selections. This is the worst mistake one can make. Just stick to your sound, try and get your stuff out on the web in various ways and with some stamina you will see the benefits in the future.
It could be worse, I play an experimental show on KFJC Thursday late night and there are times when people just don't want to go to the space you provide. Then, right when you think it's all an ego-trip, someone rescues your mission with some truly insightful appreciation. Stick it out maaaaaan, you are one of the few masterful mixologists on the radio. (sorry for the length but this is important shit)
The Bearded One Big Ben w-lfs-n!
Thanks, self.
I had hoped that the style of the post would tip people off that my heart isn't actually breaking.
Yeah, I heard that. Tom Brady and Bridget Moynihan? Will Ben need to talk about it too?
Is this the new Justin Timberlake? I like it.
He speaks! It happens that I am a Lemur enthusiast, which Frowner may recognise as a Cyril Connolly thing. Was that PK just before Ben?
lo-CHEL-eh MAH-reh, nicht war?
First, I have heard from good authority that mixologists refer to people to who mix drinks, not those who spin records. Then again, I don't claim to be down with hip American lingo.
Second, I am indeed listening at this hour of 19:07.
It does happen, though, that I am one of the few master mixologists on the radio.
If I knew I would have said it.
Fail boldly!
All of old. Nothing else ever. Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
Did anyone else read the NYTimes article on "avant-garde" mixologists in NYC and London? It made me want to kill myself.
The post-w-lfs-n DJ is reading from Ender's Game.
I'm listening to someone reading Orson Scott Card aloud on the radio. Yuck.
I will say that both my mix CD and Susan's are really good. We're just not going to talk about Kriston's.
But you never even listen past "Boka Ga Nejirekireru To Ai"!
