Want to hear a fantastic song about right-wing radio? Alas I do not have a link; you will have to go out and buy the CD "Moss Elixir" (or the LP "Mossy Liquor" but that's in shorter supply) by Robyn Hitchcock for its second track, "The Devil's Radio". Sample verse:
Limbaugh
He was talking through a bimbo
But don't
Touch that dial
Or that hateful smile
Kate said
"The flowers of intolerance and hatred
Are blooming kind of early
This year
-- Someone's been watering them"
If the Right is going to do some soul searching about racism,
Mmm, wouldn't worry too much about that happening. No one wills himself into oblivion.
Freddie Mercury's moustache is always so … moist.
SCMT beat me to the punch in 3, but I can still weigh in with another song about Rush Limbaugh, Moxy Fruvous's "The Greatest Man in America."
Have they forgotten that this already happened to Rush Limbaugh when he tried to break into sports talk? This is why they created their pet media outlets in the first place, because otherwise of course they should be worried about it.
Shoot, it happened in a limited degree to Ann Coulter not three months ago.
4 - I'm not one for the moustache-no-beard look but his looks delicious.
Man, Freddie Mercury even makes sweaty armpit hair look hott.
Even better, here's a song sung by Rush about himself. (note: this was assembled at least 8 years ago, quite impressive given the lack of advanced software and searching tools)
Why are people listening to Dick Morris?
How is he even still alive? I would have thought that his hate for the clintons would have burned him up from the instead.
7,8.10 - who's going to break Becks' heart by pointing out Freddie's proclivities?
Freddie's proclivities
Not to mention his nationality.
Hm, well that link should not have the last bit on it. Try this one.
A high-school homophobe buddy of mine was also a HUGE Queen fan - until he saw them in concert. I could never get him to describe what he saw, but it was obviously traumatic for him.
(How naive were me and my friends in high school? I don't think I understood about Freddie until after his cause of death was reported.)
15: Same. "Queen" seemed like a weird name, but then so did "Earth, Wind, and Fire."
We Will Rock You takes on a whole new meaning.
Limbaugh will be dropped when his advertisers quail at his hate-filled rhetoric. His job is secure.
Yeah, the time for Garlique's road-to-Damascus moment is long past.
A high-school homophobe buddy of mine was also a HUGE Queen fan
Bwahaha. I guess the band's name hadn't given him pause at all.
Clown - while his parents were Zoroastrian, they were of Indian nationality, and he was born in Zanzibar. The Islamic Republic of Iran's embrace of him is just icing on the cake.
(A middle school education in Latin American rock n roll appreciation has given me a treasure trove of useless facts.)
Mike d, the link in 14 is to a hilariously vehement disagreement between, as I recall, an Iranian and a Parsee about Mercury's nationality.
If I knew what a Parsee was, I'm sure I wouldn't be parsee-ing Mercury's background.
*rimshot*
23: I believe it's between two people who both describe themselves as Parsee, with very different ideas about what that means. And then all kinds of other lunatics get in on it.
13,14,23: But who will take responsibility for Eddie Izzard? The British Empire has much to answer for.
I give you Kween, the Japanese Queen tribute band.
26: And where is the Japanese Eddie Izzard?
27: I give you Tributo a Queen, the Latin Queen tribute album, featuring some of the South's biggest pop acts, including my personal favorite: "Rap-Soda Y Bohemia" by Molotov.
The latin types(SA) like queen just how it is thank you very much. Barring the aggressively conciliatory Legend, Queen tracks are only second to "Eye of the Tiger" when it come to cafe sounds.
OT:
Y'all, I am very sad about my taxes.
That is all. Thank you for listening.
3:"No one wills himself into oblivion" ...Tim
Oblivion:"The condition or quality of being completely forgotten"
Sez you.
26: But who will take responsibility for Eddie Izzard?
Britain, and proudly so!
Did no one notice apo's link in 19? I demand an explanation.
Only a few days ago did someone explain to me that Oasis, in fact, won the UK Civil War. From this side of the Atlantic, I thought Damon Albarn had the victory locked down. The Good, The Bad, and The Queen: the Gallagher brothers' idea of Reconstruction?
2: Then there's Rush Limbaugh - Evil Blimp by Neighborhood Texture Jam.
I posted a scan of the sleeve art from the single last year.
Speaking of audio atrocities committed over the airwaves, is young Ben still doing his show?
Imus wasn't fired for saying racist stuff. He was fired for saying racist stuff when he doesn't have the audience to merit his time slot in the first place.
Limbaugh does not have this problem. He's very popular. His advertisers already know what they're in for, his audience too. As long as Limbaugh is more popular in any given area than drive time rock or Christian contemporary, he wll continue to be on the radio.
You guys joke, but did you know the Dy-no-mite guy is a political talk radio host? No, seriously.
"I've always felt like I've had libertarian leanings, but just didn't know the label. The more I read, the more I liked about libertarians." -- Jimmie Walker
I admit I did not know this. I guess the pictures no longer confuse me as much.
I totally thought the same thing about Queen. Just another figure in the rock n' roll royal family, alongside Prince and The King.
Unrelated question: since Springsteen sings so much about the plight of the working man, why is he known as The Boss?
The urge to rewrite the quote in 41 to apply to Coulter is nearly irresistible. But I can't imagine it going anyplace pleasant, so I'll refrain.
Since Springsteen sings so much about the plight of the working man, why is he known as The Boss?
They're saying "Bruce".
42: Because from one working class guy to another, that's a compliment?
Because in Jersey, "that's boss" was and remains a high compliment?
Because with a band as big as his, you need impressive managerial skills to keep things going?
Top Ten Lies we tell our guests:
They're not booing you; they're chanting "Dave."
You know what they say about guys with big bands.
why is he known as The Boss?
Because it almost rhymes with "He paid the cost"?
When we finally have the efficient market promised us by economists, we would be able to click on those pictures to download Jimmie Walker-Ann Coulter porn, complete with laugh track.
So, does this mean that Ann Coulter is dyn-o-mite with a laser beam?
