They needed to pass something to remove the bad taste in the mouths of progressives left behind by the Iraq supplemental. This was as good as anything else they had near at hand. And yes, it's a good bill.
But damn, that supplemental vote sucked, minimum wage boost or no.
Perhaps we should have a Special Congressional Olympics where every Congress can be a winner.
you get much better results from rewarding an animal for doing what you want than from punishing it for misbehavior.
My great grandfather got pretty good behavior out of his draft horses, because when they tried to kick him he'd beat them with a chain.
I'm not giving out treats until they start the impeachment proceedings.
Good Congress! You've made it to the potty twice in a row! Here's a nice cookie!

The Scots side of the family. A wee bit hot headed.

Heh, I have a grandfather-horse-beating story too, actually. Maybe it's a national trait.
My grandfather was an army NCO. When he was a young man, some time in India in the early 1920s, one his jobs was to look after his Colonel's horse. The horse apparently was a vicious bastard and regularly tried to kick him. One day it booted him full in the head knocking him unconscious. Once he recovered from his concussion, he went and found a shovel, and poleaxed the horse.
My grandfather, son of a Highland immigrant, was a famous horseman, often called to extricate horses from difficulties, once from down a narrow pit. Apparently very gentle with them, completely into positive reinforcement and quick to anger at mistreatment.
He probably also put sugar on his porridge.
Mother from the West Indies, it was probably molasses.

Stop! STOP!!1!!
On a quick look, I see only one Dem (Kaptur) in the Nays for this bill, so that's something.
Also, would it be so hard for the times to provide that link with the online version of their story?
They did, in the left-hand column.
