Thanks, Ogged.
The first thing is for us to decide if weeknight might be better. I get up early, but I'd put up with it if we thought more could come or we'd get a better or quieter place then.
If we schedule it for Wednesday at 3pm, we might be able to squeeze into the front room at the Hopleaf. Most of us would have to stand, though.
I'd have to take a half day and not get paid for it to do that; I'm working in Warrenville. But I've wanted to go to the Hopleaf for a long time.
My remark was a joke, meant to refer to the fact that the Hopleaf is so incredibly busy of late. In the abstract, I'd love to go there, but I also love now to be completely squished.
just about any evening, weekend or weekday, between now & next Wed. works for me. After that it depends on the specific day.
I have a normal 9-5, and night classes on Wednesday and Thursday that keep me busy until 9 pm those nights. Other than that, I'm pretty flexible in the next couple weeks.
Hopleaf is awesome, but Maproom is probably better from a crowd standpoint. Unless we're going for beer selection, we should probably choose a neighborhood before choosing a bar.
The Map Room has a pretty good beer selection as well, IIRC.
I'm telling you, hold it at the Matchbox.
The Map room is also surprisingly empty most nights (compared to Hopleaf).
There are so many bars that would be equally good as the Map Room and not so difficult to get to (or to get from, at night).
Matilda's at Barry and Sheffield is centrally located and not overly crowded on weeknights. M. Leblanc and I went there once on a Tuesday and basically had the place to ourselves.
It was actually on a Monday. And, if I recall, snowing. So that may have had something to do with the non-crowdedness.
There's always Piece for the beer/pizza contingent.
14: Good call, it's also got two decent bus lines and a good L line running past it, so there aren't many places easier to get to.
Any chance we could not have it this weekend? As a semi0lurker I'm not sure I carry much weight, but I have a pressing commitment outside our great city that requires my physical presence.
yeah, well i'm a lurker and unlikely to be able to make it on any date, so no weight attaches to my opinion.
i just throught out the first because, you know, have to start the bidding at some price.
June 6, I might could. But I've been known to bail on close personal friends who know where to hunt me down, so no need to actually weigh that might could into the equation...
I could do the 5th, but the 6th and 7th are the nights of my two finals. Interpol is playing on the 3rd (Sunday), but I could do almost any other night next week.
I could (and more importantly, would) do the 5th or 6th. 7th I'm out.
June 5 or 6 is okay for me. 7 is not.
OK, the 5th. In Fargo. Consensus.
How late on the 5th will people be out? I may be in town, but I'll be busy until at least 9.
Yes, it seems a lot of people are in finals...
Damn UC.
How about we wait till next week then someone pesters Ogged to post another thread and we can decide on the final date/time/place?
Never mind my 28--I won't be done until 10:30, then I'm catching the redeye back to MSP.
If we wait a week the odds of me making it plummet.
We've already waited a couple of weeks, and let's hope this won't be the last occasion, nor even very rare. We're close to agreeing on one or two places on the 5th or 6th, I think.
piece on 6/5 at 8pm
i'm as likely to make that as any other time/place.
June 5th it is. And Piece should be delicious. So is that 4 so far?
29: There are a few maroons on here. Disturbingly many if you count alums.
a few maroons on here
Nearly everyone on the site, I should think.
like clowna, I can only hear "maroon" in bugs bunny's voice.
as in, pointing with thumb to yosemite sam, eye-roll to the camera, "whadda marooon!"
so it refers to the downtrodden of hyde park, too, eh?
We're not cool enough for a mascot, so we got a color. Thankfully, Stanford, Harvard, Cambridge and Oxford are similarly afflicted. At least we can avoid the lameness of a terrible mascot such as the beaver.
I'm in for Piece on the 5th (barring a last minute work emergency but that's never not true)
and what's wrong with beavers?
i'll leave you to gnaw on that one for awhile.
maybe you should have cited "a terrible mascot such as a banana slug"--who's that, UC Santa Cruz?
makes beavers look practically...vertebrate.
(oops! I elipted again!)
41: Just a sly dig to see if LB actually reads every comment thread in this hizzy.
Hey! (Although as a female athlete at a school whose mascot is the beaver, it is kind of a lousy mascot.)
9 pm? I tend to get off work rather late (when the boss is around)...
Or I can just be late.
I'm not a maroon myself - in either sense. I proudly (and rarely) wear the purple and white of Chicago's other great school.
So we are agree about 8, tomorrow, here?
