That. Is. Awesome.
I. Have. Spent. Too. Much. Time On. The. Internet.
Why no period between "Time" and "On"?
Nevermind that. Alameida wins! Fuck you, rum, you wish you were molasses.
Punctuation aside, congrats, alameida.
Congratulations. I just returned from a party thrown by a friend who recently celebrated 18 years sober. Which is only meant as an encouragement, not a "you won't be able to top this so don't even try." Um yeah I'm gonna shut up now.
3: Clearly, I've been drinking. Also not reading comments enough to know if you've established a post-college plan. Have you?
Why is the rum gone? Because you kicked its sorry ass!
...and congratulations.
9: The plan right now is to stay in Albuquerque and apply for jobs (in other places) until I get one. I've been busy with that and other stuff for the past few days, and haven't been reading comments much either.
I submit that stopping drinking during a Bush administration is especially noteworthy.
YAY! Well-done, applause and other kudos of that nature. Very very impressive. Particularly for someone who used to chase the dragon; that ain't common.
m, no turning in your one-year chip for drinks, eh? }:)~
Alameida, you prob don't know me because I've lurked, but this makes my day and the next few. Because of you, I'm happier than I used to be. Cheesy but true.
thanks everybody! I'm basking, lizard-like, in the adulation.
Congratulations, Alameida! Down with the rum! Up with beautiful lizards! Bask, bask, bask!
Aw, Alameida, that's fantastic. Wow, that went by fast. Confuckingradulations.
Alameida, I am proud and excited for you, and maybe a touch jealous. You raise the sharp humor of the ascending degenerate to an art form; I am willing to believe you so gracefully rock sobriety just to make my world a bit more awesome.
I've been sober for one year today.
I'll drink to that! Congratulations, a.
12 gets it exactly right. Many happy returns of the day, Al.
Dude! A year is serious -- well done!
Alameida rules, rum drools! Congratulations!
my mom refuses to let me bake for my own celebration so I'm getting a crappy store-bought cake tomorrow (I'm getting my chip then so my sponsor can be there)?? not sure I see the logic. I may rebel. chocolate cupcakes...
Cupcakes or no, this is an awesome achievement not just for you, but for your kids too. Congrats!
Reality is a crutch for those who can't handle rum.
Congratulations! If your mom had said you couldn't bake a "cake", you could always get around that by making a delicious Boston Cream Pie. But since she seems to have ruled out baking altogether, maybe there's some other workaround. Steamed pudding? Fritters? Dutch pancake?
Chocolate pudding!
Congratulations, Alameida, many happy returns, so to speak.
that whole cake/pie issue is a vexed one, m/tch.
Congratulations! Wishing you many many more. And something good to eat, even if you have to sneak down and bake in the middle of the night.
Woo hoo! A year is a big deal. Have some cake. Have cake NOW!
One year? Damn good!
Now, if you smoke, I want your lighter and cigarettes.
You're so dry you're a fire hazard.
Congratulations, al, you're teh hero.
Congratulations! That's a tough thing to get through and sometimes to keep getting through.
44: You can relinquish the title at least for the weekend. Aren't you supposed to be changing a diaper or something?
Aren't you supposed to be changing a diaper or something?
She's taking a nap, so I had to quit squealing at little pink outfits. I am teh manliest.
49: Hoo-boy. I can only imagine how daddyhood would be different if we'd had boys.
definitely something to be proud of. good on ya.
any advice or lessons learned to pass on to others?
Hook 'em is right! Keep up the good work.
Alameida: your entries back when you first started rehab were the ones that got me hooked on Unfogged. Congratulations!
ok so the use of "hooked" is starting to weird me out...
56: I used to be hooked on Alameida, now I'm hooked on Jesus (McQueen).
Actually, i'm still hooked on Alameida. Well done, indeed.
55 and 58 get it exactly right.
Congratulations, Alameida, on kicking demon rum's sorry ass.
12 can't win the thread, because, yay, sobriety, but IMO places second.
Congratulations Alameida! That is excellent.
Great news. :) Good luck with year 2!
compromise position: instead of my mom buying polyester sheet cake from a bakery I sent her to get ang ku kueh from the great place down the street. (dumpling-ish things formed in decorative woden molds that have glutinous rice-flour outsides stuffed with various pastes: black sesame, peanut, yam, lotus seed, and durian). very nice, and my sponsor brought muruku (fried indian savory snacks) and a jasmine and rose garland--so sweet of her. it was some random visitor from the US's 19th; big ups to AA. also there was a guy who had just picked up his 24-hour chip earlier in the day, and was twitching and feeling awful. everyone could relate.

Are these any relation to moon cakes? Because if so, I'd have to say I disagree as to their nicety. Too damn heavy. And much too large (although I've seen small "bite-sized" ones too). Especially bad are the ones with a duck egg yolk in the middle. I love the carved wooden molds, though, and brought back several when I left China.
Ah, I see that they're not really the same thing at all. Those sound yummy.
That's great. I was just at a wedding of a family member who's been sober 5+ years, of which the first was by far the hardest. Congratulations.
