I liked the second and the last pair pictured best. I have no scientific basis for that, though, about cheekbones or face shape.
Oh, and a tip - her email was called "how can I pick out glasses when I can't see them?" I always ask my eye doc to let me have a pair of disposable contacts to wear while trying them on, even though I never wear contacts otherwise.
I like the Jones New York ones best. The current ones are fine, but I think the slight downward curve on the top isn't ideal -- the ones with a bit of a cat's eye upward angle at the outer corners seem to make you look more awake.
Ha! Here's the problem with asking for committee help - I like the 2nd, 3rd, and last pairs, exactly because they DON'T have that raised angle on the outside; the rounder ones seemed to complement her face better. Groovy little detail on the 2nd pair, too.
But, but, the 3rd pair is the Jones New York one.
And the 2nd one does go upward at the corners, too.
My vote is 2 or 5, with my preferance being 2.
Glasses are so freakin expensive, though. I think I'll look into LASIK before buying another pair. Really I'll probably save money, considering contacts and Dr's visits and all that.
I feel strongly about the first pair (Nine West) and the fourth pair (Vera Wang).
6: Yeah, I'm not totally against the upward angle, but some of the other pairs seemed like too much. It does seem this particular committee is reaching consensus.
I'll give my definitive opinion after I eat, but I do hope you strangled the woman in the background who keeps talking about what "we" liked best.
The 'raised angle on the outside' ones I (normally) actively dislike. None of them look great in the still pics.
However, 1 and 2 both look good in the video.
Here's what I meant about the angles.
14: I would buy the glasses you like just because you went to the trouble to make that diagram, that's great. And, yes, I see your point, and agree. But I think that's why I like the 2nd pair, because it's not as soft as her current pair, but the really sharp angle like on the Vera Wang ones are too much, almost cartoonish.
btw, what did you use to mark up those pictures?
I agree that too sharp of an angle can make the glasses look costumey.
btw, what did you use to mark up those pictures?
Photoshop.
I think too much of a sharply upwards angle elongates her face. I liked the first and second ones. The Candies Audrey ones were the coolest, but I do wonder how well she'd like the detail work after a couple of years.
So far: the 5th pair, the zip + homme, are out, because they're just too wide for your face. I second the reservation about the Candies Audrey detail work; you'll get tired of it. Ok, more watching...
Oh. For some reason I was thinking it was some kind of nifty little shareware thing just for the purpose of quickie jpeg marking. Making things up again.
The problem with the Jones NY ones is that there's somehow too much frame showing in the upper sides/corners. I do agree with the downward-slopey problem of the current glasses, but I think it's addressed by 1,2, and 4.
Since we're giving advice, let me also mention that there are some new anti-seizure meds on the market that M/tch might benefit from.
They're all similar enough that any one would look fine, as long as they can handle the essential add-on.
Ok, stills of first (Nine West) and fourth (Vera Wang) pairs. (If only M/lls had known how to zoom before he started recording....) Either one of those seems good; the Wang is a slightly bolder look, the Nine West more understated. I think I've come around to preferring the Wangs.
Woo-hoo! Ogged joins my team! In your face, rfts and cereb.
I like the shape of the Wangs, but I wish they were a little bigger. As it were.

A common complaint from those dating Iranians.

Snort, giggle.
I don't have time to be pwned by Apo. I've got to work on this paper. Outta my way.
Nah, bigger would be too big. As it is, it's not as if the frames are obscuring her eyes or anything. (I do also like the first ones.)

Nah, bigger would be too big.
You're perfect just how you are, ogged.
Nah, bigger would be too big slow me down in the pool.
I hated 5, but really liked the rest of them.
The first ones look okay, but I wish we'd gotten a zoom on those b/c I can't do enough detail like with the others.
The second pair is too narrow for your face; the bottom of the frame is so high on your face that it makes your eyes look pinched and the bottom of your face look too big.
The third pair might be a wee bit big--though the effect on you is that since you have rather a long face, they minimize that, which it's up to you whether that's good or bad--and the shadow the bottom of the frame casts on your cheek echoes the fold between your nose and your mouth. I, personally, hate that fold on myself, so I wouldn't like that; but you're younger (I think) and have a really pretty mouth (cue banjos), so drawing attention to that might not be bad atall.
Pair four, follow the line of your eyebrow nicely, which is emphasized by the darker color on top. I think they get the advantages of the width of pair three without being as big, I think.
Pair five is attractively stylish, but doesn't work on you, I'm afraid; you'd get tired of it soon both b/c the style would start to seem dated and b/c upward angle fights the angle of your eyebrow *and* your cheek; they're just not flattering to you, personally.
I say 4 or 3. But 1 is okay, too, if you want the smaller trendier look, and if you want to emphasize having a long face. Which you very well might.
You might want to pay attention to where your eyes are in the frame -- i.e., the nearer the center, the better -- it's going to do you a power of good to look through the center of your lenses. From this point of view, as well as stylishness, no. 2 looks pretty good.
I like the shape of no.2 but not the squiggle. No.4 look really nice. No.1 are like 'safety' glasses, the most similar to your current ones - they look fine. 3 and 5 are just a bit too rectangular.
Y'all are very kind to spend your procrastinating time on this. The feedback from my real-life friends (no, seriously, I do have some) has been #2 also. But B and rtfs provide the closest analysis and weigh in against #2. Hmm. I will do a little more obsessing, and maybe also stop people on the street.
a really pretty mouth
Hey, thanks! Have I mentioned that everything B says is right and just and true?

Not to me you haven't. In fact, quite the opposite. I'm confused now.
And I want everyone to know that I shot that video following strict Dogme 95 rules. So if you don't like the shaking, it just proves that you're a philistine. And uncool. And stuff like that. Yeah.
I vote for #4. Glasses #2 is perfectly acceptable, but the slightly larger #4 works better on your face.
Oh, and perhaps others have mentioned it, but Sir Kraab has one of those instantly likeable faces. (although it probably hides some deep-seated mean-spiritedness....)
cue banjos
Watch out, Sir Kraab! Bitch knows knows whereof she speaks.
Sir Kraab has one of those instantly likeable faces
Hasn't she though!
I liked the first and last ones best. Mild preferences, though.
I tried to imagine you wearing each pair while chatting with me at Drinking Liberally. With #2, I imagined that you were telling me something interesting about the history of the labor movement, but then I got distracted by the detail work on your glasses and zoned out for a few seconds, and I was wondering whether I should ask you to tell me it again.
"The blood of which worker was spilt in creating that clever little scroll in the corner of her glasses? I wonder."
47: There is no document of civilizationmyopia which is not at the same time a document of barbarism.
In Soviet Russia, glasses distract you! (oh, wait.)
You know, I bet Trotsky would have lasted longer if he'd only had a better pair of glasses. But then he was famously loathe to ask others for advice.
Sir Kraab has one of those instantly likeable faces
As long as she isn't wearing pair #4.
Number four, definitely (sorry cerebrocrat), and not just for the possible Wang jokes, but rather because they look the best on you.
#4 are Trostkyitst glasses, and #3 make her look like a kulak.
Vera Wang, but not in two tone. Get the chocolate brown. Please don't buy the Jones New York—they are not crafted very well IME.
I can endorse the Vera Wang glasses as well, especially if the Jones New York ones are likely to be ill-made.

Good to know, Smasher. Especially since my 3-year-old niece demands to try on my glasses all the time. I'll hold out as long as I can with the new ones, but I know she'll get her hands on them eventually.
My glasses, on the other hand, recently flew off my face while I was on a carnival ride, and lived to tell the tale.
