Re: I Aim To Bore, And To Tweak Will A Little

I was holding 13 strokes per length today, baby. In that stroke that uses asynchronous rotating arms and a flutter kick--you know, the crawl. No hip snapping, either, just an elegant, civilized rolling from side to side.

You forgot the two wetsuits and the dildo.

In other weather news, today was the red-letter day when it was finally time to wrap a throw around my legs while I drank coffee and read the paper. Soon I may have to close a few more windows and even think about putting on sweats and/or socks until the sun comes up.

41 et al.
Factors reducing diurnal temperature variations:
Oceanic (large lake) proximity, high humidity, low insolation.
Map of average diurnal variations across the US.

Ireland has relatively low diurnal variation, especially the west coast. Down to about 10°F in the winter.

For a combo of low diurnal and annual variations you can't beat Saipan - all-time record high 89°F, all-time record low 67°F.

The ocean mellows out the daily variation, the tropics mellows out the annual variation. Awhile back (~1940) late-fall 60 F. degree daily variation killed about 60 people in Minnesota. The annual variation is as much as 130 degrees F.

Throughout Pennsylvania the high for today is basically what last night's "overnight low" was, or even lower. Ususally the spread is about 25 this time of year. That means that the warmest point in the day is sometime before the sun comes up. Damn Canadians and their insistence on subsidizing huge blocks of cold air for export.

As long as we're giving weather reports, yesterday in Austin it was 89. Today it is 39 -- 31 with the wind chill -- and there may be freezing rain tomorrow.

But that will not stop the 20-somethingth Turkey Bowl! I'm bundling up now to join a bunch of other labor and progressive politicos for our annual touch football game.

As tradition demands, we will boldly scale the fence at a school field, tempting, nay, daring! The Man to stop us. Will we submit to such Tyranny on this day of celebration of Survival* in a harsh New World? No! We will Rise Up . . .

Ok, really, we'll just have the state rep or the city council member or the county judge we play with have a little word with the cop and that'll be that.

(*Survival, genocide, whatever.)
