I was holding 13 strokes per length today, baby. In that stroke that uses asynchronous rotating arms and a flutter kick--you know, the crawl. No hip snapping, either, just an elegant, civilized rolling from side to side.
You forgot the two wetsuits and the dildo.
hip snapping
I associate this phrase with the boy scouts.
Have a safe flight. Don't get strip searched.
It is cold and wet and there are rumors of snow. I love Chicago.
3: See 156 in the linked thread. Must be one of those cheap last-minute tickets.
Well, if you want to be tortured by M-style boisterous and move-y fun, you can come to a west side art space/loft for a fantastic electro-pop show followed by massive drinking bouts and a 5 am run on suburban Meijer's in search of $400 LCD televisions. Sounds like a perfect night, eh?
It is cold and wet and there are rumors of snow.
Bet it's sunny and warm at Guantanamo, though.
11: yes. Sadly, ogged hates perfection.
I should get a t-shirt that says "Allah Flies For Free" or "Allah Flies With Me."
Oh yeah, that would be a great idea. See if they have them in the airport gift shop.
I should get a t-shirt that says "Allah Flies For Free" or "Allah Flies With Me."
Ogged, you really make things too easy for us.
Bet it's sunny and warm at Guantanomo, though
...which will make the torment of deliberately induced hypothermia all the more poignant.
On the other hand, think of the lemon chicken! So much tastier than dried out turkey.
"My brother Shaheed is enjoying cool gardens and beautiful virgins, and all I got was this lousy utility belt."
"Allah Said It
I Believe It
That Settles It.
Don't Tase Me, Bro'!"
"Ask me about the wires coming out of my Koran"
I was holding 13 strokes per length today
Was that before or after the crying phase?
Exactly what you'd expect from a coastal desert.
32: Amazingly small temperature variation from day to night.
In other weather news, today was the red-letter day when it was finally time to wrap a throw around my legs while I drank coffee and read the paper. Soon I may have to close a few more windows and even think about putting on sweats and/or socks until the sun comes up.
Amazingly small temperature variation from day to night.
Close to the equator, no?
Close to the equator, no?
That goes with small temperature variation from season to season, not day to night.
That goes with small temperature variation from season to season, not day to night.
Today's low in Dublin: 41F. Today's high: 46F.
I assume it has to do in part with ocean and humidity buffering temperature swings, but that can't be all of it.
I bet the lady lawyer would like to see some of that elegant, civilized rolling from side to side.
41 et al.
Factors reducing diurnal temperature variations:
Oceanic (large lake) proximity, high humidity, low insolation.
Map of average diurnal variations across the US.
Ireland has relatively low diurnal variation, especially the west coast. Down to about 10°F in the winter.
For a combo of low diurnal and annual variations you can't beat Saipan - all-time record high 89°F, all-time record low 67°F.
The ocean mellows out the daily variation, the tropics mellows out the annual variation. Awhile back (~1940) late-fall 60 F. degree daily variation killed about 60 people in Minnesota. The annual variation is as much as 130 degrees F.
When I was in high school, a group of us got lost in the mountains just northwest of Death Valley in early April. Blistering heat in the day, ice storms at night.
My curiosity concerning the desert has been completely satisfied.
45:Dallas gets "northers", a change of winds up off the Gulf to winds down from Colorado. High yesterday 82, low last night 69, currently 53, low tonight something like 36. Winds were 10 mph from south, dead still for an hour, 20-30 mph from northwest. I can remember it dropping 30 degrees in a hour once.
I go where I'm needed, Wrongshore.
Thanks for taking care of my friend, Ogged.
Thirteen strokes is excellent. Short course meters, right?
Dhit. I could only get 22 strokes per lap today. But then again, I have teh short arms and a very bad kick
tweedledopey:
Ogged is screwing with you. He can barely do 13 strokes in breaststroke. You can get to under 20.
I know I can get to under 20. I haven't been focusing on swimming really.
OT: More bad news for Emerson.
My justification for my 17-21 strokes per length is that an inefficient stroke is lots of exercise... which is most of my goal.
WTF, is everyone spending time with their families or something?
I've been savoring the delights of the bustling metropolis of Kayenta, Arizona.
I was cooking a delightful baked ziti and some other things. We're eschewing the traditional fare for a pretty typical family dinner this year (just me, my mom and pop).
I just baked an apple-pear pie (aka obstler pie) with cardamom, now cooling about a mile away. Looked pretty good but I'm afraid I had too free a hand with the spice.
Just finished making one potato salad, v. large, and baking a bunch of sweet potatoes, because I am an American of great honkitude.
But most of the sweet potatoes are Okinawan, I hasten to add.
He can barely do 13 strokes in breaststroke.
And I thought I was lousy in bed.
Meetings. Lots and lots of meetings out here in the real world.
...and especially the kind that let you off for shooting kids on the tube.
Shit-ridden catfuckers.
Throughout Pennsylvania the high for today is basically what last night's "overnight low" was, or even lower. Ususally the spread is about 25 this time of year. That means that the warmest point in the day is sometime before the sun comes up. Damn Canadians and their insistence on subsidizing huge blocks of cold air for export.
In honor of the holiday I will be drinking green-bottle beer today instead of Pabst.
re: 63
The same shit-ridden catfuckers who lose huge amounts of data and then lie and obfuscate about it? Aided by a media that doesn't have the foggiest about databases and therefore buys any old shit put before them?
As long as we're giving weather reports, yesterday in Austin it was 89. Today it is 39 -- 31 with the wind chill -- and there may be freezing rain tomorrow.
But that will not stop the 20-somethingth Turkey Bowl! I'm bundling up now to join a bunch of other labor and progressive politicos for our annual touch football game.
As tradition demands, we will boldly scale the fence at a school field, tempting, nay, daring! The Man to stop us. Will we submit to such Tyranny on this day of celebration of Survival* in a harsh New World? No! We will Rise Up . . .
Ok, really, we'll just have the state rep or the city council member or the county judge we play with have a little word with the cop and that'll be that.
(*Survival, genocide, whatever.)
Mennesota has been unseasonably warm during the winters ever since I returned in 2005. We still haven't had serious snow or a hard freeze yet, and there are still live flowers.
Shit-ridden catfuckers
A fine phrase. I will put this into rotation with my usual choice for this sort of situation, the simpler "pigfuckers".
68: Mennesota
Well, no wonder you can't find a woman, Emerson! You're living in the wrong state, while they're all next door in Femmesota.
Gender-mixing often leads to inappropriate relationships.
