You should probably holla if you're going to come so Armsmasher has an idea for how many people to plan for. I'm coming on Friday but not Saturday, as I know there's no way I'm hauling my sorry ass out of bed in time for a 10:30 gathering after drinking Friday night (and as I'll be cleaning, etc. for the party.)
[For those in NYC, the Angel Tree is up and looking magnificent at the Metropolitan.]
Jennifer Steinkamp's Loop is still up at the Corcoran in all its nausea-inducing brilliance, or at least was there when I went three weeks ago. The Leibowitz photos were a pleasant surprise, but Ansel Adams' fotos all look exactly the same to me...
It all sounds good, but I can't make any of it. Not unless the Phillips Gallery has taken me up on that Sunday Bloody Mary brunch idea I keep suggesting to them.
I won't make Friday daytime things but I am definitely in for Saturday. Thanks, 'smasher!
Ah, that Sunday brunch at the Phillips sounds grand. No, they won't be taking you up on it, I don't think.
Cool. I'm pretty sure Sir Kraab and I will be attending at least some of the tour. I'll get back to you with more specifics later.
Wow, that looks awesome. Brings back great memories from living in DC. Sorry I won't be there to share. I'll have to hit a few of those when I'm up in the spring.
At the gym just now, I saw a flyer on an upcoming exhibit of photos of the ancient synagogue of Aleppo. Is there any intelligence on this? I suppose I ought to get back in the habit of reading 'smasher's stuff . . .
I would like to take part in part of the friday tour.
If you fuckers get the chance on Friday, do go see the Jeremy Blake work. The obituraries made him sound like kind of a dickweed, but his art is really beautiful.
I will take part in the Hirshorn portion of the Saturday tour, I don't think my flight gets in early enough for the early shit.
If anyone wants to go to the Phillips on Sunday, I'm down.
I suppose the art thread is as good a place as any to post pictures of the gingerbread house that the Ruprecht family made yesterday. The daughters helped with the baking, Fleur helped with the construction, and we all pitched in on the decoration.
I'll try to make it up early enough to meet people at the Hirshhorn.
Nice house, Knect!
M/tch & I will definitely be there for the Turner. Others TBD.
Where, precisely, are we meeting for Turner? At one of the entrances? At the exhibit?
Let's meet in front of the Turner painting with all of that water and light. You know the one I'm talking about.
If anyone wants to go to the Phillips on Sunday, I'm down.
Drat -- I just went to the Phillips a month ago. Something in that area (Dupont Circle) on Sunday might be nice, though. Brunch might be all I'm capable of, though, come to think of it.
On Saturday:
5-7 PM food at my place on Capitol Hill for anyone who wants to come by. Email above for address, etc.
I will also be trying to be hooking up a tour of the Capitol beforehand for people who desire it. Again, email above.
Slight change of Friday plans: My early afternoon obligation has fallen through, so I'm free to venture from the NGA to the Brickskeller with folks. There will probably be time to fit another stop in, interest pending.
15: The entrance is marked "J.M.W TURNER". Just make sure that you're not going into the exit by mistake. Probably best to look for the 47-year-old balding men in fannie packs.
