...a fund to help the children of Thomas Casey, who died in the same ambush
Who died, according to reports, trying to save Andrew.
Who apparently himself got shot trying to talk some people into surrendering. You have to like his approach.
I suspect that it may be impolite to say here, but glorifying Casey's death is neither necessary nor helpful.
Oh, put a sock in it. I didn't know Casey, but I knew Olmsted a little, and I liked him. I'm as antiwar as anyone, but someone gets killed trying to save the life of someone I liked personally, I think glorifying his death is necessary and helpful.
Doesn't mean that I don't think it was idiotic that either of them was in Iraq at all.
The post isn't glorifying anyone, comment one describes Casey's reported manner of death in a very neutral way, and well it may be not necessary or helpful (to the cause of ending the war in Iraq and not having other stupid wars, I think is what's meant) it might still be a good idea, if someone felt like doing it.
It might please you to know that, out of respect, I did put a sock in it. But go ahead, knock yourself out.
You must have microscopically small feet.
For me, 'put a sock in it' is pretty mild. It's just that what's going on here isn't glorifying the war, it's talking about individual people I had some personal investment in, and so reading it as glorifying the war is a mistake. No hard feelings on my part.
I didn't take any offense, LB. I was being deliberately vague in no. 4 specifically to avoid, I hoped, causing offense or disrespect in light of the nature of the post. I should not be surprised, therefore, that I was mostly misunderstood. But to elaborate or argue the point would defeat my original intent, and so I won't. As I said, I was probably being impolite in posting at all. Sorry, if that's the case.
