This is the point where I state that it would be cooler if he commented as "Perfectly G. Delightful".
Also, who will be at the PIttxbsurgh meetup?
PIttxbsurgh
Getting a headstart on the festivities, Ned? That looks as though it would be pronounced like the aftermath of overindulgence.
I am totally up for a Super Tuesday meetup here in the Old North State, where my own vote has never been needed in a presidential race. Also, there must be a drinking game.
Is there anyone in the cleveland area besides me and the snark-shrubs these days?
I shall volunteer my place in DC, home of politics. Unless the Flophouse wants it.
1: I control the PGD brand! Your suggestion will be forwarded to our marketing department.
Not to imply that a mini-meetup between my household and the snark-shrubs wouldn't be a fun party.
Also, why won't my son go to sleep? I wanted to go to bed hours ago.
My email address is linked here and above. Other volunteers for hosts in DC can step forward on this thread and/or email me. Once we settle location, we can do the RSVP thing.
"Perfectly G. Delightful" does have a great spammer-style fake name ring to it.
3: Ahem. Robert, darling. But I suppose I could be in NYC.
One in Boston would be swell as long as JRoth and I could drink, have a drunken fistfight, then drunkenly apologize and sing together, as brothers.
Oh, we could probably manage one even without that. Maybe mrh'll bake us something?
I'm in for NYC. Let's find a better bar than the 2006 one.
You're really super, super Becks.
Oh, people are thinking of a bar meetup. Well, I'll volunteer my place for a DC house party anyway, house parties are fun. But bars are good too. Let the people decide!
I will host the Charlottesville meetup. It will be a glass in my hand. Maybe I'll drunk dial Will, a mere 60 miles away.
I'd be game for a Phoenix meetup, if enough lurkers and/or Gonerill are interested.
(Also: people in wheelchairs should probably not try to attend the Charlottesville meetup, lest the police hit you with their cruisers.)
An XTC reference, ben? How... mainstream.
Wev, Josh. I can like mainstream things too, you know. It's not even the first. I even played that great song "Making Plans for Nigel" on the radio once.
I might be up for that. On the other hand, I might be up for some pro-Obama GOTV volunteering in the NYC area... Anybody got any plans/leads along those lines?
9: I am. But mr oudemia is quite near mr helpy-chalk.
I'm game. Maybe even hosting, if it's a small crowd. Unlike sports, nobody will miss the lack of a big TV....
(This reminds me that I should try and get back on the Drinking Liberally bandwagon)
Count me in, and I'll even drag the missus along.
I'll try to entice Buck to get a babysitter and come along.
Mardi Gras is Latin for Super Tuesday, silly... Wait; or maybe Greek.
Wait, where are these so-called meetups? I see none where I can attend. We are disappointed.
If you state your location, someone else who lives nearby might pipe up. It could happen.
28: Yes, I have that effect on the young ladies.
Hey, I just realized that super Tuesday is the day I turn forty thirty-ten. I definitely want to do something, maybe host. I'll ask Molly. (Are you lurking?)
The Austin Drinking Liberally meets Tuesdays, and that's where M/M/ & I usually go for vote-counting types of events. Other Unfoggedidians could join us there, or we could go somewhere on our own. Discuss.
I'd be up for Boston. Maybe we could go to the Ruprecht household and get a real meal out of it (potluck?). I'd love to meet Fleur.
I will host the Charlottesville meetup. It will be a glass in my hand. Maybe I'll drunk dial Will, a mere 60 miles away.
Only if eekbeat talks with me too.
OK, since no one else has volunteered, I'll host in DC. I'll send out an invite when it comes closer to the day. For now please indicate interest to above email.
38: Fleur would love to meet you as well, BG. I'll ask her.
The one drawback of our place is that we would have to get our election returns from online, as we don't get any television at our house.
Alternatively we could go to the local watering hole. The last time we went there to watch election returns, a drunk guy yelled out that anyone who voted for Deval Patrick must be retarded, and Fleur went up and got in his face.
I'm up for an NC meetup, especially since I missed the DC extravaganza. I could even host, depending on the number of folks. What vicinity are we talking about? In or near the Triangle? or near the beach?
Does anyone in NYC have suggestions for the New York location? While the place we went for 2006 wasn't fantastic, we did get our own section of the bar and control over the TV. I'm not very good on this because usually I'm looking for bars *without* televisions.
Alternatively, if the numbers aren't too big, I could host -- I've got a biggish TV, cable, and people could use my wi-fi.
In or near the Triangle?
Nearly all of the NC commenters are Triangle-based, aren't they?
44: I wasn't sure, actually, but had some vague (and probably false) memory that Robust McManlyPants lived near the coast? I don't know. But I'm in the Triangle, so that's where I'd prefer to meetup.
Upon reflection, my small TV and lack of internet connection (currently, at least) may make my pad a poor choice. But I don't have a spouse or roommate to cajole, bribe or irritate, so it's still on the table.
as we don't get any television at our house.
Knecht! I love you and Fleur even more now.
BR and I are cable-less, but we just can't quite get rid of the regular tv. She likes watching football too much.
BR and I are cable-less, but we just can't quite get rid of the regular tv.
To be clear, we do own a television (it's hooked to a DVD player that we use from time to time, mostly for the children). What we don't have is any programming, either terrestrial or cable, except for Telemundo, which for some reason comes in perfectly on the rabbit ears antenna.
45: Nope. He's here in Durham too.
49: Ah! Well, I'm in Morrisville, so we're practically neighbors. ::waving::
Actually, I'm waving from the basement of the museum in downtown Raleigh. You probably can't see me from here.
48: by choice. The lack of terrestrial reception is a geography thing, but theoretically we could hook up a roof-top aerial if we wanted. We have chosen to avoid television to prevent brain rot in ourselves and to insulate our children from advertising. Most of the time we don't miss it.
51:
How do you know what prescription medication to tell your doctor that you need?
Forget that, how do you know who to vote for?
What we don't have is any programming, either terrestrial or cable
This makes me suspect you're not in the most transit-accessible location. Or maybe you are, you live in a subway tunnel.
Triangle-based, aren't they?
I am in Durham/Carrboro. I'm not really up to host, but a bar would be fine with me, also.
Durham FTMFW! (Though I lived in Chapel Hill for 12 years and Rah did so as well for more years than that.)
I would be down for bar-hanging-out and returns watching. Don't be hugely surprised if I occasionally try to steer the conversation away from the returns, though. There's only so much pundit-head babble I can take at a time.
47: fwiw, I haven't had one since the late 80's, maybe early 90s. Never really miss it (but I can play DVD's or whatever on a monitor). I don't have kids though.
I'm inclined to suggest a place where I can fret like crazy over the returns as they come in, as I tend to follow politics the way most NC men in my age & weight class follow NCAA basketball. Hosting isn't out of the question, if I can get the house in order well enough--comments, questions & suggestions can reach me by selecting "gmail" in place of the domain in my sig.
I'd be up for the Austin Drinking Liberally.
55: Exactly what triangle neighborhood can be called "Durham/Carrboro"? I called both places home for many years but never both at the same time.
*Lightbulb appears over head* Thanks.
I would love to meet BG, and anyone else in the Boston area.
I would be happy to host a Super Tuesday dinner at our house, as long as Knecht will not be traveling. That can be tricky to plan around, but since I do not cook, and he does so well, he kind of needs to be there.
Confessions from the dark side: in addition to Telemundo, I have a special way to rig the rabbit ears that enable me to access the Fox network. Conclude from this what you will, but it could be entertaining to watch the returns on Fox, assuming Desperate Housewives isn't on instead.
*Lightbulb appears over head*
Tough to keep in mind now that your commute is 'stroll out to vines, taste grape'?
I may be able to make it to New York. Will know more once the semester heats up.
This makes me suspect you're not in the most transit-accessible location
Au contraire. We are the proverbial stone's throw from a train station.
How do you know what prescription medication to tell your doctor that you need?
Some very thoughtful people regularly send me e-mails offering prescription remedies at low, low prices and without a doctor's visit. What could be more convenient?
Rah is too nice a guest to say it but it will drive him insane to be somewhere that doesn't have internet access on Super Tuesday because he will need multiple sources of information.
I will be happy anywhere there's a corner where I can get out of the wind long enough for a smoke every once in a while.
You know, last year's NYC election bar wasn't a terrible setup for election watching, except for the lack of wi-fi (IIRC). And the location was at least kind of in the middle of things. I was just never thrilled with the feel of the bar in general. I'll see if I can find a better place in the next couple of weeks.
And the location was at least kind of in the middle of things.
Yep, the location was a definite plus for most people, I think.
So I take it none of you will be in New Orleans? What a shame. It's a happenin' town.
The scheduling coincidence is good for me. After five days of p-rades, watching primary coverage will probably be a nice, chill option.
But if any of you are in town for Mardi Gras, let me know.
Chez Ruprecht is still on offer, with the stipulations previously mentioned.
KR--Cala needs your help in the Finer Things thread.
PGD, I'm in for the DC meetup. I've emailed you.
