Boston meetup at Deep Ellum in Allston?
(Hey, their phone number is 787-BEER!)
Austin: Join us at the weekly Drinking Liberally at the Dog & Duck, 406 W. 17th St. (at Guadalupe) from 6:30 on. (Decent bar food, good beer selection, plenty of parking.)
Look for us on the covered patio on the side (where there's a TV), under the "Drinking Liberally" flag. Not everyone there will be sexing Mutombo, but new folks show up all the time, so don't be shy. Just sidle up and say hello.
M/tch & I will be there, and I think Heebie & Jammies are planning on it. Let us know if you're coming and we'll keep an eye out for you.
Deep Ellum works for me. Just so long as I remember to vote in the morning.
I guess New York should be at that midtown Irish place where we watched the 2006 returns. I didn't make it out bar-scouting, and that place was centrally located, big, and had a TV. Also the usual bar food. I don't think there was wireless. Someone remember the name of the place?
O'SOmething. It was on 36th east of 5th, the same block as the Ginger Man.
On the other hand, we could go to a karaoke bar, and find out what happened on Super Tuesday the next morning.
Or an IRA bar! That would make for an interesting meetup.
It was O'Reilly's Townhouse at 21 W. 35th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. Closest subways are the 34th Street B/D/F/Q/W/V/N/R station, the 33rd Street 6 station, and the 1/2/3 lines at Penn Station.
"Why don't we go somewhere that doesn't suck?" is what I'd say if I had an alternative suggestion. Is midtown in the thirties really the best compromise given where everyone is coming from/needs to go?
Don't we kind of want someplace that sucks? We want quiet, and a TV -- a fun bar won't be good for watching returns.
We want quiet enough to talk to each other, we don't need/want to hear the TV, do we?
On preview, oops.
3,4:As a Dallasite, there is something about that bar that bugs me, kinda like that Statue of Liberty in Las Vegas.
I'd push Nolita Bar, which has quiet, wifi (I think...), and a TV. And it also has the added benefit over my last suggestion of actually having a sign out front. But the real reason I'm pushing it is laziness, so I'm willing to defer.
Nolita House or Nolita Bar? Because I know staff at the former, and don't think the latter exists.
Nolita House seems like it would be crowded and cramped, no? I guess it depends on how many of us show up -- and I have no idea what the place is like on Tuesdays.
It's pretty calm during the week. I can stop by tonight (although it won't be till like 11) to check it out.
5: I have it on the calendar. Shit could come up, but I remain optimistic.
Washingtonians! I have offered up my place (convenient to the Red, Orange and Blue metro lines), and will provide food/drinks, but feel free to suggest other meeting locations if a bar is preferred.
I've linked my email above.
NYCers: Why not the Continental? Cheap booze, a TV, the 6, L, N or R. Cheap, seedy and fun. Plus, the best bartenders around.
If people are willing to come downtown, I too favor Nolita House.
I'll do Nolita if that's the consensus. I still think the Continental might be more fun. (Free Wifi, too.)
5: I'll probably be stuck at work, but I'll stop by if we can figure out this bug that's keeping us from shipping before Tuesday. Also, thanks for the advice about donating books, in the other thread; I can walk around my apartment without running into a pile of books now!
Now that I am located in scenic Brooklyn, downtown is better for me.
Oo, although I will have to go up to Harlem to vote, so, whatever.
Do any of you know of a bar in LA that is expected to play the Super Tuesday results? I don't have a tv at home. I will probably try the Rustic Inn, as that's where I watched the Nevada primaries.
Bay Area Super Tuesday meetup, anyone?
Is Boston doing Deep Ellum? What time? I may or may not be there, most likely not, but I'd like to know the plans just in case.
I don't think we'd set a time. 7:30? Shouldn't be any results before 8, right? Any thoughts, anybody?
I will go where I'm told. See y'all there.
Deep Ellum in Allston, AWB. 7:30. See you there.
I'm near the Rustic, jms. Although I may end up at the Obama party.
What public transportation to Deep Ellum from Harvard square- 66 bus?
My wife wants to watch returns with me and we can't both go because we'd need to hire a babysitter, so I don't know if I'll be there.
24: I've linked my email above.
You always say this. You mean below.
Anyway, for Washingtonians and those in the environs, PGD, let's get in touch.
What public transportation to Deep Ellum from Harvard square- 66 bus?
Yes.
5 sounds like fun, but not on a tuesday from here. Sigh.
Will the Continental have returns on? Can we make them? It was one of the backdrops of my delightfully misspent youth (then called the Continental Divide), but I haven't been there since my friend stopped tending bar. It would be my first time there not doing naughty things in the bathroom! Or would it? (No, it really would.)
Is there no bar for ink-stained wretches certain to be following the returns?
Who knew bay areans were such an anti-social bunch?
Continental sounds fine - I'm an official maybe on attending, tho, as something has come up last minute. I'm hoping to stop by later on, though, to celebrate/commiserate as appropriate.
Am bringing only-looked-at-unfogged-once friend captain perspicacious and hoping to get almost-lurker mrmf to come, too.
Continental sounds fine to me. I'm teaching until 2:30, have the rest of the day free.
45: Bay Area? Or East Bay? And if the latter, how far east? Berkeley? Sacramento? Reno? Denver?
Continental is awesome for the cheap drinks, but it seems kinda iffy that it would be showing election returns. Worth a try, I guess, especially if AWB gets there at 2:30 and calls dibs on the teevee.
To make this even more complicated, there's a separate discussion going on amongst some NYers where I think the conclusion was "fuck it, let's just go back to O'Reilly's if we can get the TV".
I've asked somebody (ANYBODY PLEASE) to step up and give them a call to see if we can call dibs on the upstairs/TV. If I could get a volunteer, I'd be eternally grateful.
45,46 - I was thinking of proposing something. I think I'm driving back from a meeting in SJ on Tuesday. Anand and I could meet y'all somewhere.
I could do a Davis stopover instead, but without Anand. I know you guys only really want to meet Anand.
O'Reilly's says no problem getting the TV upstairs set to CNN -- the guy even remembered us from the last election.
As for time, I'll be there by 6:15 or so.
In case any LGMers show up, I'm bringing my best knife and a backup concealed in a very secret, special place. But I'm told the bar has decent knives available to lend out; you just have to give them a driver's license or credit card as security.
DING DING DING! Dave is commenter of the week!
Thank you very much for calling them. O'Reilly's bar starting at 6:15ish it is.
50: I was thinking SF or civilized East Bay (Oakland/Berkeley/Emeryville). Unfortunately, I can't really think of any good teevee bars, so I was hoping someone else might step up and herd the cats this time around.
Triple Rock in Berkeley has TVs, although I'm not sure how amenable they'd be to changing them to election coverage. I'd imagine it'd depend on how many of us show up.
Oh fucking hell. I just remembered next Tuesday is my co-op shift. Maybe I'll skip it and make it up some other day.
We promise to be at least a little more fun than your coterie (gaggle? parcel? snood?) of liberal Park Slope yuppies, AWB.
57 - I think you should all go and hang at Ogged's place.
I am debating whether it's worth the long train ride and missing my bellydancing class, or if people would be interested in a meetup on the 13th when I'll be in NYC anyway.
Or, Cala, you could belly-dance at the meet-up. It's a fairly private room.
Oh, god, that would be embarassing. I am a beginner and apparently cannot shake it like a Polaroid picture. Who knew that hip flexors could be so tight?
Who knew that hip flexors could be so tight?
I would be interested in going to a Super Tuesday meetup, but it would have to be held not on Super Tuesday. So I guess I'm out.
Fuck Super Tuesday--what about the Super BOWL?
I'll be at Deep Ellum, but I'm going to be arriving late-ish. I'll be leaving the medical area around just after 7:30.
w35th and 6th has a few Karaoke down the block, too.
Polls close in 24 hours.
How much does bottle service cost at said Irish place ?
