Girls Just Want To Have Fun is awesome! Cyndi Lauper RULEZ!!!! Oh, wait, I thought I was back in 6th grade for a minute there. Still a good song, though.
Boy, am I out of touch. I recognize about 2/3 of the artists but only about 15 songs. I don't like any of the songs I recognize, and there are only 3 or 4 artists I've ever want to listen to (plus maybe Spector-era Diana Ross.)
I do like Kylie Minogue a little bit, but for wrong, NSFW reasons.
The playlist for UnfoggeDCon 3. Not that there's going to be an UnfoggeDCon 3.
Jimmy Somerville used to sing Dancing Queen as part of his live set, but AFAIK he never recorded it. It was beyond awesome, far better than ABBA.
There is nothing gay about Sylvester.
3: y'know, I had lots and lots of gay-ass dance music all ready for you people.
Also that list is ignoring lots of gay, gay, gay disco. I guess it just isn't famous enough.
Just as a start "Don't Be So Mean (In Your Jeans)" by Bruni Pagan, "Rock the Box" by Sylvester and "Is It All Over My Face?" by Arthur Russell are gay, gay, gay.
I don't see Erasure anywhere in the top ten so I'm pretty sure I don't have any use for the rest of the list.
Still, "Believe" is a fucking awesome song.
Totally misread the intro. I initially thougth it said "greatest". I was starting to second-guess my desire to one day visit Australia.
Without Right Said Fred, this list is a farce.
7: yeah, that's a crime. No early Ministry, either.
Right Said Fred's "I''m Too Sexy" was brilliant self-parody, ergo, not gay in this context.
No Smiths? Might this list be some kind of homophobic act?
I'm really surprised Macho Man isn't higher.
ABBA's pickled herring is quite good. They also get down with the delta blues on the Summer Night City B-side:
Gonna jump down Spin around Pick a bale of cotton Gonna jump down Spin around Pick a bale a day
Gonna jump down Spin around Pick a bale of cotton Gonna jump down Spin around Pick a bale a day
Oh, lordy Pick a bale of cotton Oh, lordy Pick a bale a day Oh, lordy Pick a bale of cotton
None more gay. Gay up to eleven.
S/B "None more white. White up to eleven". We regret the error.
I don't see Erasure anywhere in the top ten
Such a great song, though I kinda prefer this version.
17: Well, the second version is definitely gayer.
That Erasure video is my new favorite thing ever. Naturally, for the lyric "give a little respect to me" the video should have one guy handing another guy a small white plastic object with the word "RESPECT" written on it. Such deep symbolism!
No Alison Limerick, no Ultra Naté, no Adeva, no Dusty Springfield. Not even any Dana International. You can't make a list of gayest songs ever without including "Free." That's just not done. Also, I quibble with #6, which I would replace with "What have I done to deserve this?", "Rent," or "Bet she's not your girlfriend."
One of the wonderful things about the "Labs Is Gay" joke is that it's been running for so long that I can't remember whether or not Labs is actually gay.
'I love to hate you' is my favourite of Erasure
the voice of the singer of the song i'm looking for, about coffee days, sounds very similar to Erasure's singer's
Also mostly on topic, and starring a friend of mine.
Right Said Fred's "I''m Too Sexy" was brilliant self-parody, ergo, not gay in this context.
Except that he's a screaming queen and no one parodies us as well as ourselves; therefore, mega-gay.
Such deep symbolism!
Erasure: subtle as a bag of hammers. It's worth noting, by the way, that their last two EPs are really fucking fantastic and one includes a duet with the fabulous Ms. Lauper. Also, their On the Road to Nashville CD is amazing and I cannot believe I skipped out on going to Nashville to watch the show with dob.
There's no Billy Squier on that list, either. What a travesty.
I'll interrupt the parade of one-upsmanship to say that I love almost all of those songs. I thought I was str8, am I a fellow traveller of some kind?
Also, gayest could mean enjoyed by the most gay people, which would disqualify all your treasured obscurities. Gay as they no doubt are.

PGD, if you keep insisting that you're straight, I'll start to wonder.
Billy Ocean's Suddenly is also my fave
just curious where it counts
Hey Labs, do you check your unfogged.com email? I sent you something.
I take issue with number 30. No fair including a song purely because of its singer's name.
oh nobody likes it, pity
or Army of lovers's Obsession or Queen's Don't stop me now and many other great songs i liked back then
but i suppose they are not considered the gayish songs may be
Anything by Queen is gayish, read. Your antennae are working fine.

Just in case nobody's clued you in, take a long look at some Tom of Finland drawings and then take a glance at Rob Halford's wardrobe.

On this list I think "gayest" means "songs associated with stereotypical elements of gay culture that (non-) gay readers will recognize." With the emphasis here probably on the "non." Even so, the absence of Erasure is still surprising.
Something by Nitzer Ebb needs to be on this list, too. Probably "Fun to be had".
#30. We would also have accepted "Balls To The Wall."
(FYI: Kris Kirk's A Boy Called Mary is a interesting collection of pieces he wrote on the--mostly British--gay music scene during the '80s.)
yeah, his orientation, Queen's everything is sure fave
well, if i started to mention what i like then next have to mention Red Hot Chili Peppers and after that i have trouble liking anything new
Dusty Springfield was from New Zealand. No way she gets on an Aussie list. (I've been told that NZers dominate Australian crime. They're a despised minority like the Welsh or the Scots.)
Were she on my list, Dusty Springfield would be my favorite by far.
Nitzer Ebb
A few years ago, Rah and I went across the street to check out the dregs of a neighbor's yard sale. I wound up fixing their computer in return for a few bucks of yard sale credit and started going through the husband's CDs only to find Nitzer Ebb in the pile. He and I had a bit of a bonding moment. Nitzer Ebb! In a yard sale on our suburban block! Sweet!
Man, Nitzer Ebb brings back memories. I saw them in "concert" once, and it was predictably lame. Muscle! Muscle! Muscle and hate!
Sometimes I still put on That Total Age when I'm vacuuming the house.
Nitzer Ebb is industrial. EBM is a nonsense genre invented by post-goth dorks who wanted to scream over 10 year old trance tracks.
The two Kylie Minogue songs at 7 and 5 are the most thoroughly obscure items on the list, at least to me. Obviously I haven't been going to enough gay bars.
Kylie Minogue
I don't know how to say this, DS, but not knowing Kylie suggests never having been in one at all.
Wow, I was very insistent on my sexuality up there, wasn't I. Never try to post from a Blackberry on the subway.
Never try to post from a Blackberry on the subway while comparing dicks in a public restroom.
57: "Listen. A public park. I got my name on the damn building. I'm not gonna do that. You know, maybe I said it in the wrong order, but this was a pretty stocky Blackberry, and there were a lot of other Blackberries around in the park, and, you know..."
Hurry up and masturbate to Patrick Swayze while you still can.
Fleur and I will staying this summer at the hotel where Dirty Dancing was filmed. I wonder if they will build a memorial shrine to him or something.
Um, Jesse's Girl, helloooo! (The video, anyway.)
I went in a completely different direction on this. To me Free Bird is probably the gayest song and Lynnrd Skynnrd (fuck it if I'm going to look up the right spelling) about the gayest group (they just didn't know they were). But then again, look at Free Bird, leaving his girl, 'cuz "Lord knows I can't cha-a-a-ay--ay-ay-ange", a man trapped yet exultant in his non-heterosexuality, expressing it through interminable soaring guitar lines. Gaydom at its most bedrock American.
Jesse's Girl
No time to find it in the archives but I think it's been previously established as Unfogged Canon that this song scans way better and Springfield's enthusiasm makes more sense if one hears the lyric as "I wish I were Jesse's girl." In other words, gods yes.
The best thing about Rob Halford's wardrobe is that it was indeed bought in a gay s&m shop.
Which explains Hellbent for Leather.
"You Spin Me Round" is only #49? I'd put it at #3, personally. Maybe not very many people have seen the video.

I was wondering about that. My friend the goth DJ alternates cool atmospheric goth music with stuff that sounds like DJ Assault, and I don't have the heart to tell her that the only reason she's been fooled into thinking it's in any way compatible with the rest of her stuff is because some of it is made by German people.
Hmm, I wouldn't have guessed "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" at all.
"I'm too slashy" by Right Said Snape. Gay to eleven doesn't even begin to get it up enough.
i have no idea what she is singing about or whether her German is understandable
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IBh5xjSDSg
hope you'd like it, looks like that goth stuff to me
The erasure greatest hits cd is awesome:

i forgot to mention as faves 10cc - I'm not in love and Evanescence
