Libel! I have no recollection of saying (or thinking) anything of the sort.
Impossible-to-untangle posts, maybe. Music? Nah.
Oh, I also wanted to mention that I wasn't kidding about this.
2: Do you expect that to be any more successful than last time?
At Southbysouthwest I intend to spend the week looking for Lykke Li.
3: No. But it doesn't cost me anything to have the address up, and people occasionally refer to it still.
Shorter 4: "I'm going to SXSW and you're not. Ha!" Jerk.
Does Dälek have to deal with people at shows shouting "Exterminate!"?
Alt 6: "I'm going to SXSW and so is Lykke Li. Ha!" Rulez.
Okay, who here likes 20th century symphonic music the absolute best?
You like some weird shit, Armsmasher.
14: he likes the pretty girls. See also Debbie Harry, Prussian Blue.
I wanted Prussian Blue to be a mass phenomenon, so that when they came to New York and there were thousands of screaming teenagers at the airport, the Post could caption the photo "Russian Invasion."
Prussian Blue are American, Gonerill. If they were on tour they presumably wouldn't fly to New York.
He's losing his touch. Ever since he found out Jon Stewart was stealing his material.
And they'd caption that photo "Prussian Invasion," no? Maybe you should rethink 17, Gonerill.
Maybe Gonerill has in mind Tatu? (Or whatever erratic capitalization it's supposed to have.)
Gonerill is thinking of Russian Circles but neglects the fact that they too are American. Jesus, Gonerill.
If they were on tour they presumably wouldn't fly to New York.
It's a big continent, Ben. Flying is how *I* get to NY; do you do something different?
In addition to 17's other flaws, it lead me to research Prussian Blue. This shit is creeping me out.
24: You are, however, dodging the question.
I'm disputing the relevance of the question, which is also a legitimate move.
If you were on tour--the w-lfs-n tour of the US, do you not think that flying would, in fact, be your preferred method of crossing the continent? If, in fact, you had to do so?
We can take you on tour, ben. But you'll have to, like, carry shit and be otherwise useful. I foretell a failure of the ben.
And omit all the cities between the coasts? To a populist like me, that would be anathema.
Are you pleased with your little victory, Benjy?
re: 9
Maybe not the absolute best. But a lot of my favourite music is 20th century classical stuff. Firebird/Rite of
Spring era Stravinsky, to take one obvious example.
My taste in 'classical' music tends to run more to small ensemble, solo or soloist + accompanist stuff. If it's a full orchestra, it's usually 20th century stuff, for me.
Nietzsche did point out somewhere that since we're not carp, we need to eat healthy foods.
Nietzsche was a "we are what we eat" health nut, and a fuck of a lot of good it did him. Oddly, Leiter takes Nietzsche naturalist-materialist reduction of the mind to physiology and digestion as evidence that Nietzsche was not a post-modernist, but more like an analytic philosopher. Because, you know, naturalism.
cLOUDDEAD is awesome. Thanks for the pointer, Ben.
*Through parallel synchronized randomness, I had already been listening to the same Why? album as I started to read this post.
If you were on tour ... do you not think that flying would, in fact, be your preferred method of crossing the continent?
Not if you were Glenn Tilbrook.
Gonerill was actually thinking of Nazis invading Russia, but never mind. It didn't quite work out -- rather like the invasion, in fact.
Ben and Howard w-lfs-n. Inquiring minds want to know.
Like ttaM, my taste in symphonic music runs largely to the 20th century, Stravinsky, Messiaen, Webern, Xenakis, Penderecki, Nono, etc., though I'll be the first to admit that I know shit about it all compared to someone who, like, is an actual musician.
(OTOH, I know someone, who's played professionally in the past and even toured with nationally known orchestras, who has a passionate, passionate dislike of 20th century music. When Stockhausen died, his only remark was "Good." Really.)
I thought Lykke Li was Finnish at first. Probably because I've been listening to lots of Finnish music like Paavoharju (See also here) and Es.
I've been listening to Janacek recently and recommend him, especially his chamber music and odd ensembles. I'm not sure the operas work is you don't know Czech (ttaM?), and he only did a few orchestral pieces (the Sinfonietta is great).
Janacek stands somewhat with Ravel and Prokofiev as someone who was modernist enough to be respected by the pros, but not so much that he's hard to listen to. He also wrote some of his best stuff when he was in his sixties, and competitive with guys 30 years younger.
I'm not really that familiar with Janacek at all. And my Czech really isn't good enough to follow lyrics or poetry. I can barely comprehend very basic conversations.
I like both Prokofiev and Ravel. And, along with Populuxe, Pendercki, and the like.
Dälek shows are the loudest on the planet.
Odd Nosdam, from cLOUDDEAD, is also very good.
