All that to trick us into watching a swimming video?
"We Irish enjoy"
That would be the Too-rah-Lur?
fmt=18 still isn't that great. Wonder if they have an even better fmt code hidden away somewhere.
5,6: Really? It looks dramatically different to me.
5,6,7: The format code works inconsistently on different systems, at present. I think. Also not all videos have been re-encoded in the high quality format.
The two look the same to me.
I could see an improvement with the other format when I looked at the advertisements.
This was all to trick us into watching the same swimming video TWICE!
Ogged's last name is Clancy or Makem?
The two look the same to me.
Are you all crazy about everything? They look soooo different.
Here's some background on how it works.
10: They look soooo different on your system because they are different. They look the same on my system because they are the same.
The sweaters being worn in the the embedded video don't look very Irish to me; I don't want to be incendiary, but they look English. Perhaps that perception is an artifact of the poor quality of the video, though.
Come over here so I can give you a slap.
The rest of you now have a better understanding of this.
English!? Next you'll say they are Welsh. Sweaters.
That Danny Boy was fantastic. Plus, it reminded me to order a Muppet Show collection for my god-daughter.
I'm even using XP at the moment. Can't blame apple.

I got the first two seasons for my daughter (hem hem). I'd forgotten how much the show mixed elements of what now would be considered standard kid's show format with a whole bunch of other styles. Notably, old music-hall/Gilbert & Sullivan type songs that were added for the slightly longer UK shows (including a few my grandfather used to sing), and other things. It was really the last, inspired gasp of the Variety Show -- with puppets -- rather than a children's show.
Juiced.
The singers, I mean.
Both sets. Invidious ethnic stereotypes.
15, 16: But those are examples of exactly what the "Clancy" brothers' sweaters don't look like.
That's nice of YouTube. Too bad they refuse to let maybe half the videos loaded on my college connection go through.

What does this mean? I highly doubt that YouTube knows that people from your college as such watch or upload videos...
Summertime hat buying tip: go someplace there's Cubans.
25: Invidious ethnic stereotypes.
Adapted rant from The Commitments: The Irish are the blacks of Europe. And Dubliners are the blacks of Ireland. And the Northside Dubliners are the blacks of Dublin. And the Muppets are the blacks of Northside. And Beaker is the black of the Muppets. So say it once, say it loud: meep-meep meep-meepmeep-meep.
The Clancy Brothers ain't the blacks of anywhere, which lends support to Tim's theory.
26 to 21, insofar as it's a response to anything...
The poor are the Negroes of Europe, Slack.
Jimmy Rabbitte sounds a lot less eloquent in the age of the banlieue riots, it's true.

My college connection is much, much faster than my home connection, and yet maybe half the time I try to watch a video, it won't load. This happens to many other people too.
My conspiracy theory is that YouTube is trying to save on bandwidth by randomly screwing over their most loyal and intense users (it's not as if college students are going to stop using YouTube, after all), though it's probably just a problem with my college's connection.
Embedded video almost invariably craps out on me within about forty seconds, no matter what system or site I'm viewing it on. The two exceptions so far have been this terrible Clancy Brothers video, and the Schultz/Stossel video from the Best Unfogged Post Ever.
maybe (probably) it's just my horrid vision, but they look roughly the same to me.
I'd love to screw some of You-Tubes "most loyal and intense users" in the college crowd, especially the ones who make videos titled "College girls [something something something]."

Your college is probably traffic shaping YouTube down to some small fraction of their total egress bandwidth. It's what I'd do if I were them. Bittorrent and P2P apps too.
I'm surprised to find out there's a good Unfogged post, let alone a best one ever.

Hm. This makes sense. I guess there isn't a huge filesharing population, then, since I could (in the days of Oink) get a Mb/sec.
Hey, Ogged you're right! Look how awesome this looks now:

36: Oh, it's true. Best Unfogged post ever. Generations to come will scarce believe that something that funny was blogged upon this Earth.
('Course, the first video isn't available any more, which sort of blunts the effect.)
Wow. That's awesome. I saw Liam Clancy and Makem at Bishop Ford high school in brooklyn in like 1981. A whole part of my maudlin cultural heritage that I'd kind of lost touch with. Then again, my kids think the Pogues are children's music.
It is awesome! I'm glad someone liked it.
