Vimeo kills African children
Hey, they need to find something to chew up and spit into each other's mouths.
What, no dailymotion or google video? Slacker.
Tom Brady kills African children, I don't know why you can't remember this.
All by himself? He really is as awesome as I imagine.
Are they all really using different mo' better technology? I'm surprised by the variation in picture quality.
I'm not an expert, but my guess is that the folks at youtube know perfectly well how to make very sharp video, but they make decisions about resource use: how long it takes to upload/convert, how much bandwidth it will require if the quality is very high, how fast their users' connections are, what quality they'll tolerate, etc.
The worst thing about Vimeo is that it's owned by Ja/kob of Ja/kob and Julia.
10: Ben, just go in and change it. I'm sure ogged won't mind.
9: The worst thing about Vimeo is that it's owned by Ja/kob of Ja/kob and Julia.
I think that is over now per this: Vimeo Founder Fired Does A Bong Hit.
That's what you get for selling out, sellout!
Speaking of killing african children- Mugabe out?

I didn't like the search function on Vimeo. The quality may be great, but that doesn't matter if I can't find what I'm looking for.
15: many have said the same about crazyblinddate.
Search isn't great, but it's not really a site to browse; it's a site to share stuff with friends and family, hence the intuitive privacy controls and higher quality, I think.
Of course, if you want the world to see your video, put it on youtube.

Try going to google and entering the search string "intellectual anglo-catholic heir fortune 'backrub fetish' site:vimeo.com"
Huh, my mechanic now has a little putting green outside. So great.
I forgot about Joox. Joox is awesome quality.

It's like some reverse Spinal Tap scene: "It's like, how much more white could this be? and the answer is none."
I was going to say So greatwhite but alas. Do they also make you wear a jacket? If you show up without a jacket do they make you wear one that's too short in the sleeves?
8 is correct. It's easy to serve high quality video when you have no traffic. That said, you will get better quality video from YouTube if you watch it on Apple TV or an iPhone on wireless.
Didn't we have a thread about the video of all those hip kids doing the music-video-lip-sync in their office? Was that just hosted on Vimeo? I thought it actually was Vimeo people, and our white-hot hate for that kind of preening would keep us away from their service.
Or I could totally be on crack.
25: ogged likes those people. Don't you remember him talking about how cute that girl was? No wonder their user experience appeals to him.
Also, most video sites operate in a space where the more users they have, the more money they lose. If they want to subsidize your video sharing experience, why not let them?
Don't you remember him talking about how cute that girl was?
Because she totally is, you big gaylord.
Now you can upload homemade porn for us all to enjoy
Parsimon, you did see this, right?
FWIW, VHS tapes are a highly perishable medium; digital conversion and server backup is the way to go.
Since, after all, I did find the chick in that one vimeo thing quite attractive, I went into the archives to see where it was originally discussed, and saw this genius comment from Brock: I was drinking port but now I'm drinking Guiness.
I'm not sure what significance is supposed to attach to the transition, but it's still a great sentence.
Note that the Simpsons video ogged linked in that old post and the longer version I linked in comments have both been pulled from youtube. Apparently Fox is enforcing its copyright.
you big gaylord
The Gaylords were the big Polish gang in Chicago. This is not a joke.
The name Gaylord was never terribly popular, but it peaked in the 30s and more or less disappeared by 1970.

Apropos of a recent Netflix evening, a new fight.... Beowulf, or Leonidas? (The type of fight doesn't matter. "I will kill your mon-sta" vs. "This is Sparta!". Abs. Bad CGI. Whatever.)
Have you been drinking guiness or port, Cala?
How is Beowulf, or Leonidas? off-topic in a discussion "gaylord"?
That is indeed why I mentioned it. The gaylord, not the port, of which I have none.
One could have a Beowulf vs. Leonidas fight in terms of gayness, too. (God, it's the most ridiculous naked fight scene ever. You make everything CGI. You make Beowulf naked. You then spend the whole fight scene inserting convenient CGI props Austin-Powers style in front of the CGI-Beowulf's CGI naughty bits.)

He is off-topic.
36: I'm certain it's been linked here before, but ever larger swaths of Unfogged seem to slipping down the hoohole. This one's pretty swell, too.
That one is indeed swell.
In a different direction, this is swell, too, for bringing the funk.
44 is brilliant. There's a real dearth of good Sly Stone footage on youtube.
[Not exactly up there with the Family Stone, but here's some funky scots [the first has a great vocal in a Delfonics style]: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VS0SqRtR08c
and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZzQ3QPqpAM (great ginger 'fro, too)]
I just saw your name Ttam and remembered that in my dream last night I was looking at my gmail, and I had a message from you about vinegar shares. Hmmm.
I found some footage of Ogged and his underwater camera at the beach. It's amazing how the video camera sees past his superficial dark skin to capture the essential whiteness beneath.
re: 46
Hah. How were my investments in balsamic futures doing? With the current crudite crunch, it's hitting the whole condiment trading markets pretty hard.

He is off-topic.
My comments challenge comfortable assumptions.
Your comments re-hash tired arguments.
He is a troll.

You confuse the discussion with irrelevant analogies
He argues in bad faith
Above all, a skilled commenter is good at trolling and at going off-topic. Without those skills he's dead in the water.

Perishable even if you very rarely watch them?
Yes. Magnetic tape degrades relatively quickly, sometimes in as little as 10 to 15 years.

So sad, so true. I was cleaning out the basement and found a bunch of videotapes from high school. No longer viewable. Incredibly dorky me is now lost to the ages.
Huh. I'll have to think about this; I have a tape of my Dad I wouldn't want to lose.
There are VCR conversion storefronts serving the south asian population of bigger cities, many of them do PAL-SECAM conversion too.

Relatedly, one of Fleur's HS friends, totally out of the blue, sent her a DVD he had converted from a VHS tape his father had shot of his 18th birthday party. We got a huge laugh out of watching the 17-year-old Fleur and her companions cavorting at a back yard keg party, with the guests (and, apparently, the videographer dad) getting progressively drunker as the evening wore on.
By the end of the tape, the video footage had degenerated into loving close-ups of Fleur's 17-year-old ass. The father was totalling perving on the son's hot friend.
No, no, Knecht: dorkier. Someone should have told me that a tucked in XL t-shirt and bermuda shorts was not a good look for me when I weighed 95 pounds.
