Plus his name is a verb.
FL woods Rocco.
Golf blogging doesn't count unless it's Unf or Ogged, but nice try.
To quote from the Authorized Biography,
"Unf has a 24 handicap and once made par at the 18th hole at Pebble Beach."
no, no, we must encourage this sort of thing.
Ben w-lfs-n should post more about wine, too.
It's unclear where the corporate finance blogging will come from, though. maybe they should recruit that Dsquared guy.
Root for Mediate. He's less of a robot than Woods, by far. Plus, his caddie isn't as dickish as Steve Williams.
I used to hate robo-Woods, but now I kind of dig him. The golf course LOOKS good my golf swing FEELS good I LIKE my chances.
What a lousy tiebreaker format. They should each get a bucket of balls and drive at each other at 50 paces. Last one standing wins.
No, I love the 18 hole playoff-- sudden death is lame, as we saw at the Players this year.
6: I used to hate robo-Woods s/b I used to robo-hate Woods.
I find myself rooting for Woods, but it is not a considered position, just the emotional stance I find myself taking. (I am a marginal fan of the sport, although I am trying to understand why I found myself compelled to annoy everyone in the car by scanning the AM band yesterday during a 2-hour drive during the critical finshing holes in an attempt to find coverage of the Open. Golf on the radio—Wow! Did you hear that shot? But Father's Day I guess, annoying dad behavior forgiven.)
I'm not talking abut sudden death, just injury or unconsciousness.
Woods vs. Mediate in the Octagon: Mediate has some back problems, but Woods has the bum knee. Prediction: Woods tries to take the fight to the ground to use his superior upper-body strength and to protect his left leg from kicks.
Plus his name is a verb.
Is there not a "Jimmy" or a "Josh" on the tour?
Between this and the swipple, looks like I'll be getting loads of work done today.
8: Sudden death would have been fine, if it had not been played on a gimmicky hole where one shot would end the tournament (the 17th hole is fine in stroke play, but in match play [which SD is], it is a horrible hole). I'm a huge fan of the three hole playoff - doable the same day, a chance to recover from a bad hole (though not a horrific hole vis a vis Phil manboobs Mickelson).
Three-hole is fine.* I don't like SD even on non-gimmick holes but that 17th par three thing was so lame. As for Mickelson, it was like he was doing a bad Mickelson impersonation. Weird.
*Save it, Sifu, that magical night we spent together must remain out of the public eye.
Did y'all see Rocco's peace sign belt buckle? It clearly means that:
People who care about world peace should root for Mediate.
People who care about fashion should root for Woods.
Also, shouldn't there be some sort of pun revolving around tigers, woods, rocks, and mediation?
Yeah, that belt buckle crossed the line. Also drew attention to Rocco's unfortunately high belt and his "no, seriously, I am a professional athlete" shape.
So it WAS a peace symbol -- I need HDTV.
Those who are at work -- how are you following this?
22: MSNBC website - they are carrying it live.
I support Mediate not just because his family name is a verb, but because of the particular verb it is.
Looks like the third hole will be a two-shot swing. What a nasty lie in the trap.
You want to avoid hitting the ball three fairways over when playing against Tiger, I'd think.
The MSNBC video wasn't synced with audio, which was annoying, so now I'm enjoying the RTE liveblogging.
28: And is delayed by a minute or minutes? (maybe just my connection) I was seeing the updated score on another site after 8 holes when it looked like they were still lining up their putts.
Liveblog here. Sounds like Woods is in good shape.
Ah, but Rocco picks up a stroke on 11. Damn. Woods seems so erratic from the tee this tournament, but he's got tremendous mental game.
30: Yeah, found it, wish that guy what put the hole # in his posts as I try to catch up after being away for a bit. F..ing work.
29: Yes, I'm also having the same issue. The audio seems to be live, while the video is off by at least a hole, I think.
Props to Mediate for keeping himself together.
tremendous mental game.
Does that mean that he doesn't seem troubled by his own fuckups, or what?
How's my man Mediate doing? Note that his last name is also an adjective.
15: I'm with w-lfs-n 100%. And "Rocco" doesn't immediately sound like a mediated name. It sounds like an immediate, unmediated name.
37: I mean that a lot of golfers, even pros, would have a tough time keeping it together after, e.g., the terrible start yesterday. So even with his knee bothering him and the inaccuracy off the tee, he's able to put together good rounds.
I think of a Rocco as being like a brutish Marlon Brando type, in A Streetcar Named Desire or a Mafia movie. Raw experience right there.
Looks like the MSNBC video and audio are not synced.
44: Oops. I mean, are NOW synced.
I can't believe you've made me have a rooting interest in golf.
I honestly don't know who to root for.
Sifu, is the joke here that you're not really paying attention to the playoff at all, and are instead just randomly spouting off?
He's going to have trouble getting out of that one.
Even for Tiger, that was a pretty impressive putt.
I just don't see using a seven iron in tht situation.
Rocco was really lucky to hole that one, but it still counts.
Tiger's drive was a thing of beauty.
He's going to have to pick up his game if he expects to get back into it.
Even when he's not at his best, Tiger still is a formidable golfer.
Is anyone commenting actually watching at this point?
I thought it was pretty unsportsmanlike of Woods to threaten that other golfer like that.
Well, MSNBC's on-line feed is now audio only for me, so no, I'm not watching; just listening.
I've got the audio and the RTE blog. Damn video.
usopen.com has video, working fine for me.
Actually, the MSNBC video *is* working -- at about 2 frames per minute. :)
The audio on MSNBC's not so great either at the moment; this is one of those things where TV IS a lot better than the internet.
What happens if they're tied after 18?
Tiger's putt is long enough to be clutch, huh? Damn.
71: sudden death play, dunno which hole.
And my audio feed picks this moment to get clunky. Birdie putt on 18 for Woods...
Wow, SD. Sometimes working at home rocks.
Whoever wins, it was a great match.
I expect to see a lot of Rocco in the future.
MMA.
I presume they keep the bags of clubs?
7, 8 and 18 in that order, apparently.
How great is Johnny Miller?
84: I kinda doubt he'll return to dancing at the Cheetah after this, John.
Tiger feels that a sex change operation could extend is career by ten years or more.
His Swedish girlfriend is cool with that. She's a nihilist.
Does the low score win or the high score?
If the holes were bigger and you got rid of the various obstructions, the game would be more fun for everyone.
Doesn't matter - they'll always have the same score.
Can't you go troll the white people, John?
Did you ever decide who you are rooting for, Labs? It's nearly impossible to interpret your comments without knowing.
Now's a bad time to say Woods, I know, but I sided with Witnessing History over One Brief Moment of Greatness.
Kobe would have won the MMA contest to decide the U.S. Open winner.
