Who could make fun of someone with such a serious look of determination on their face?
The picture doesn't show the pants part. That was disappointing.
Both links allow you to comment on the suit, actually. Which I highly recommend doing.
A mile isn't really that long to swim, but a suit like that would probably make it seem longer.
look of determination
That's nearsightedness. No, wait, it's charity! A look of charitable charity. Please give!
That was disappointing.
And deliberate!
Wait, I'm being mocked on two blogs? There's only one thing for it: I have to post it on EotAW, too....
BTW, are we to take it that you're doing this swimming thing because none of the charitable cycling events would let you ride your recumbent?

This is actually the first charity swimming event I've seen.
You'll be being mocked on three as of tomorrow; I didn't want to step on my co-blogger's post today.
Although come to think of it you're not really as well-loved on my blog as you are here and at CT (through no fault of your own, I hasten to add; merely the unfamiliarity of the bulk of the readership), so maybe you won't be mocked at my place. Time will tell.
11: Is that because the bulk of swimmers are uncharitable? Surely not.
Then again, thinking of the swimmers who post and have posted here, I dunno.

So, love -> mockery. Interesting.
I'm tempted to start a chain e-mail; "Help mock Eric!"
A mile isn't a very ridiculous distance.
Mock all you like, but please do consider supporting the Women's Cancer Resource Center of Oakland, too. They've been doing good work for 22 years.
16: It is for those of us who can't or wouldn't swim a mile, Ben.
14: IME, sincere compliments merely embarrass you. So.
Never judge a man until you've swum a mile in his suit.
A mile is very, very far in water. Like a light-year is far in space.
For fuck's sake, don't cross the streams. Swimming posts are haunted.
I wept because I had no swimming shoes until I met a man who had no swimming pants.
And I swallowed a lot of water and coughed for a while.
Don't worry about us mcmc, just go ahead and enjoy yourself.
I laughed at the thought of mcmc laughing at herself.
A mile might be similar to someone running a 5k. So, if he swims regularly, a mile isnt a big deal. If he is an absolute newbie, then it is a nice accomplishment.
Hey, Eric is really good looking. No one mentioned that.
Any insinuation that he gets links out of anything other that respect for his abilities as a historian would be calumny. But certainly, the man's devastating.
OT:
Today is LizardBreath's birthday. Happy birthday, LB.
(At a small law firm, there are no secrets; I have a list if everyone's birthday, even people like LB who left years ago).
You apparently have an inaccurate list-- I'm 36 until tomorrow. But thanks for the thought.
I am feeling all creaky and crone-like -- 37 is really unambiguously late-thirties. I'll get over myself in a day or two.
re: 33
I have an accurate list, I just read my calendar wrong. [oops]
And damn, you're old. I keep getting AARP stuff in the mail. Want me to forward it to you?
I dunno -- I'd have to dig out my reading glasses to read it.
re: 34
I have another 6 months or so to go till I turn 37, but yeah, I sympathize. It is late 30s.
OBAMA COULD SWIM A MILE IN HALF THE TIME!!1!
Happy bday, LB!
I had the same reaction to 37, for some reason. And then, as you know, I started getting antsy in the lead-up to 40. But really, so far so good. I promise.
You poor thing, LB. To have this terrible thing happen to you when you're barely out of your teens.
I keep getting senior citizen discount offers for Sunset magazine. Hrm.
