The first one means "And the son of Avinoam came with mighty waters"; the poet is referring via allusion and paronomasia to lightning. The second means "send a lightning, my God, and disperse them."

The captive in elevator tv headline news-lite said something to alarm the Clinging Bitters - something about retroactvely banning their guns. Previous Barry news items on this channel have been momentum positive, mostly about big rallies and surging in the polls. Today's blurb is an ill-timed November surprise.

Time to go across the street and buy some beer. This is all still too stressful. Agreed that those fuckers better be right about PA. Though I think they might be. Still, can't take the disappointment. And I really want to see the Indianans and other erstwhile Reds stick the motherfucking knife through the Republican party.

Getting kids into class then required the 101st Airborne. That Obama got this far half a century later boggles my mind, much less that he could very well become the president.

And, he's articulate.

FAZ liveblog about Palin:

Will eigentlich niemand etwas über Sarah Palin sagen?

Does nobody want to actually say to something about Sarah Palin? But, finally, at Fox News it is appreciated. The media, say the medium people of Fox, were debt that them had to rush with such a bad image by the election campaign. It arrived nevertheless so good with the religious, worth-conservative core of the republicans. That can ask it then in four years again to the choice dance.

Since McManus isn't here to weep bitter tears at the rise of Whirly-Eyed Fascism and the dawning of Obama's boot grinding into a human face for eternity... I shall weep for him.

But I do love that Obama has a gaggle of opening acts warming the crowd up for his speech. Good showmanship.

Feh. Krauthammer on Fox: '...I don't think we've ever had a president in the White House....[long pause]... as untested and unknown as Barack Obama.'

Ok, so the R media ops have been setting up for the loss and are trying to play that for Obama to be a good president he must unite the country in an R agenda. So the election continues.... for four years.

Holy shit, I am actually feeling proud to be an American.

Yeah, I was thinking about buying a flag to hang from the porch tomorrow. You know, like an American flag.

I just walked to the store to grab some beer. Some neighbors outside celebrating invited me in for absinthe, and then a corpse reviver. I feel a glow now that seems appropriate to the occasion, and hereby declare that I will make absinthe my number one drink during the Obama administration.

The neighborhood is elated. People are whooping and shouting, beeping car horns and shooting off fireworks. One man stepped onto his porch and sang "Obama" to the tune of "Volare". It's raining, but the mood is good.

And now the acceptance speech. I don't care what McManus says, I like this guy.

Paul Kanjorski JUST BARELY hung on against celebrity racist mayor Lou Barletta. Kanjorski does not exactly have a lot of accomplishments for someone with 24 years in the House, and it would be no tragedy for him to lose, but not to that asshole.

This is great and sums up my reaction. A lot of friends went downtown to celebrate and hear a speech by our (pending recount?) new congressman, Perriello. I was tempted to walk the handful of blocks, but I'd rather just sit here and let it sink in. It's taking awhile.

I was at an election watch party for most of the evening. When they called the election for Obama, I just couldn't believe it -- it's been clear for a while now that an Obama victory was likely, but seeing it happen was incredible. Pennsylvania! Ohio! Virginia! Florida! I can't believe this is real.

And then I came home to check the ballot measures, and it turns out that Cal. Prop 8 is ahead in the polls. And, OK, this is real. America still sucks.
