I have a class til 10, but I can make the late shift.
Or I could come at, say, 3:30. Afternoon snack is a underrated meetup hour.
Near or even in.
The afternoon has this disadvantage, that many have real jobs.
Is the post title quoting a Decemberists song? Seems a bit mainstream for neb.
BH & I are available - there are a variety of places in WeHo that would suit, depending on the size of the group and what people want to eat.
Your uncle was a crooked French Canadian, Stanley, and your mother wears army boots.
5: Curses to this mirage!
A bottle of ancient Shiraz
A smattering of distant applause
Is ringing in my poor ears.
They do have some clunkers, don't they?
Had been trying to decide whether to go see them this Friday here in town. A few crappy tickets left at retail (it is a pretty decent venue so no real terrible seats), but the aftermarket prices for good seats seem insane. $200+? Really? Or am I just "kids get off my lawn"ing it here?
9: It could be that no one is really buying at those prices, but that is all I see online.
They put on a good show, though I should admit that the time I saw them they were backed by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.
11: They do put on a good show. It is not a $200-good show, IMHO.
12: Trying to decide if it is a $45-good show from the rafters.
And tonight Son Volt at Hartwood Acres at 7:30 (free concert). I had earlier thought of trying organize a mini-meetup there , but got too busy at home/work and was not sure we would even be able to make it to the concert. But looks like we will. If you go, we'll be the ones with our noses in books. (Or more reliably send a note to the e-mail at my pseud this afternoon.)
On the 13th I have a dinner appointment, but I could join you all afterwards, on the latish end of the evening, probably around the same time as ksky? I propose the Cat and Fiddle, as it's West Hollywood adjacent, can accommodate groups of varying sizes, stays open late, and offers Scotch egg.
But I defer to DE and BH, who are knowledgeabler about the area.
I've seen Meloy at the grocery store. For reals.
Your uncle was a crooked French Canadian, Stanley, and your mother wears army boots.
I don't know Stanley's mother, but the image of my own stomping about in army boots is delightful.
16: Jesus, I hate to do this, but I'd replied to your email and haven't heard from anybody. I can resend if you didn't receive it. No worries otherwise.
Colin Meloy is, surprisingly, one hell of a front man. I saw them on this current tour (they play the Hazards of Love song cycle and then a mix of classics and covers, some of which are particularly fun with the two additional singers). $45 is at the outside limit of what I'd pay, but I'm cheap like that.
200+ is really quite insane; I paid around $45 with handling fees for tickets to see them at the newly renovated Fox Theatre in Oakland.
Sadly, though, I've no idea if they put on a good show because I got overwhelmed with work and family obligations and had to give my tickets away.
The Cat & Fiddle is awesome, but I'm not sure I realized it's anywhere near WeHo.
It is about 2 miles away from the east side of WeHo.
15: We've been more familiar with the food at Cedars and Cedars' cafeteria lately. The Cat & Fiddle is fine with us.
WeHo kinda sucks, really.
I'm staying there.
The afternoon has this disadvantage, that many have real jobs
Fuck the employed.
I will actually be in LA that afternoon, and if my plans don't conflict with whatever plans eventually get formed, I'd be happy to meet you anywhere, Benjamin.
Are we meeting-up with Ben or aren't we? It's Tuesday, people!
Wow. I got home late and neb is playing Mahler!
I also just deleted the in-progress recording, because I decided that this show was too full of fuckups and it just wasn't very good arg arg arg.
This is Uri Caine's Mahler studio album.
29 is exactly right, although I don't really need to know until 10 pm tomorrow, though that would have to be by phone.
