New wtf thread
on 02.20.25
The last dumping ground for the ongoing nightmare has run off the page, so I thought we might start a new one.
Krugman tries to make the case that Trump/Musk are imploding. That would be nice.
As an unrelated moment, Detroit been frozen-flooded after a water main broke in 2° weather. Wild footage here.

In no time, Trans Himalaya's produce was being exported to Sikkim and other parts of India as well as to adjoining Bhutan and other countries. While the thukpa produced by Trans Himalaya became a rage, most people in the region were not even aware the 14th Dalai Lama's elder brother lived in Kalimpong. "If we look at the history of noodles in Kalimpong ... Gyalo Thondup started it in an authentic Tibetan style. By the 1970s, it had become extremely popular. His noodles were in demand until Covid," said trader Subash Pradhan who sells noodles in Kalimpong.
Heebie's take: Looks delicious! I'd hit that.

Teacher training

Well, this chapter is off to a bad start:
I can confirm that it is still being handed out to high school teachers in 2025.
From this (although hopefully not the most recent edition) and if you're feeling earnest, you can read the whole chapter, which is overall not quite as painful as the beginning. (It would be hard to sustain a note that bad.)

Guest Post: NYT Report on Planned Parenthood in Crisis

Lurid Keyaki writes: original article, no paywall
Something more specific to focus on, with a lot to discuss: how skeptical to be about the source and timing; the effects on PP of decades of political hostility; trends across the health care industry; allocation of funds between advocacy and patient care; the problem of accountability in an extended emergency (get used to this problem because it's here to stay!!!); and, naturally, What We Can Do.
Heebie's take: Wow, this is like Shrodinger's NYT article. It could be dead-on accurate - it tells a plausible story of how Planned Parenthood has focused on lobbying to the detriment of providing safe health care. Or it could be an insane hit piece.
I'm going with insane hit piece, because the tone is much more Very Serious Adults Are Worried, in contrast to how they report on Musk gutting the federal workforce.
