The architecture of Notre Dame really looks like St. Paul in Pittsburgh. It's like they copied us, but decided to go bigger.
Do you all have a cutie little mini-hunchback?
We were able only to admire the exterior during our recent visit but the sight was restorative after recalling the horrible experience of watching the fire on television.
It's kind of crazy to think that some finished in 1345 is robust enough to survive a fire like that he restored. It feels like most contemporary buildings are disposable.
Haven't clicked the link, but I'm minded of the Japanese temples that get identically rebuilt every 20 years - how much of the restoration was actually rebuilding?
The roof and its supports were all rebuilding; the wood bits had burned and the lead bits had melted. Not sure whether the spire is recast or rescued, or maybe a bit of both. Interiors are mostly stone so they were cleaned and, possibly, buttressed.
Time to go back to Paris.
The buttress can fly so they escaped the fire.
Sure, Notre Dame is rebuilt, but the French government collapsed again.
And our orange excrement chose to go over there and debase the whole thing.

11. My late mother, who grew up during the 3rd Republic, said that the announcement, "Here is the news. The government has fallen in France", was so frequent that it became a standing joke. The early years of the 5th seemed to have produced a bit of stability, but it seems to be reverting to type.
Maybe things would have gone better if Macron hadn't double crossed the left after they saved the country's ass in the election.
16 is a hell of a take on a no-confidence vote that saw the left loyally voting with their allies, the far-right, to bring down the government.
It turns out that when you rely on the left for electoral support and then jealously guard them from having any influence in governing then you end up losing their electoral support.
Yeah, I know. It's worth bearing in mind: the centre-left won't always be as forceful against fascism as they should be, but the far-left will abandon their allies and side with fascists at a moment's notice, not even to get something they want, but just out of pique.
