Actually, at least in the blogosphere, enough people that I respect have read and really liked comic books that I feel a little illiterate for not having read more.
Booker told The Star-Ledger of Newark he yelled "not in my city" at the scissors-wielding suspect.
Oh Lord. Now I wish he'd gotten a mild stab from those scissors. Nothing permanent, maybe a nice puncture to the leg.

I think Bishop is rather cranky in terms of what one wants for a Mayor; a bit more diplomacy tends to be in order. And I'm not sure that being from an apocalyptic alternative future where genocide of mutants took place gave him a helpful background for being an urban politician, though it does account for the crankiness. But maybe one wants a mayor who doesn't threaten to shoot people quite so much.
Although Arnold did get elected Gubinator, to be sure. But, then, that's worked out in rather mixed fashion, so far, at best.

4: Same here. My entire comic-book education consists of the semester between when I left MIT and went to the University of Chicago. I was still living in my MIT coop, and there was a big locker in the basement filled with a couple of years of X-Men, SpiderMan, and various other assorted comics. I read the locker-full over that semester, but that's it. (Sally is fascinated by WonderWoman at least, and I figure I'll keep feeding the fascination as long as she's interested, which means I can borrow the collections I get her. Which will be some form of remedial comics education.)

Sort of; kinda limited. Wonder Woman has often tended to be one of the least-connected books to the larger DC Universe, particularly given that she's commonly regarded as one of their Big Three Characters; but they've generally had a lot of history of having trouble making her work. In her own book, anyway, as opposed to, say, Justice League incarnations.
Though she did recently kill Maxwell Lord by snapping his neck in cold blood, and thus resulting in a lot of blowback, admidst the ongoing onslaught of Real Moral Issues and whatnot in the current DC Universe (which I only know about via reading on the internets, rather than seeing the actual comics).
And, of course, as suggested by Mr. Jones, there's a lot more to comics than DC/Marvel, which plenty of comics fans will sneer to their utmost at. But I'm not the right person to be your guide.
Hmm, I don't know how decent or awful Birds of Prey was; might be too adult for Sally, anyway; how old is she, again? (Young, I know.)
According to the article, the mayor's security detail tackled the robber. Not sure how heroic it is make a show of running after the bad guy when you know your beefy bodyguards are right there with you to step in and do the rough stuff.
